...from the Mestizo-Curtis Park Community Coalition
The Mestizo Curtis Park Pool has been a cornerstone of Five Points since 1936 — Denver’s first integrated public pool and a vital space where generations of Black and Brown children learned to swim, dive, compete, and gather in safety and dignity.
Today, the city is considering reducing this historic athletic resource.
Option A preserves a full‑size 50‑meter pool and a medium leisure pool, ensuring access to swim lessons, team practices, diving, water polo, water aerobics, and community recreation.
Option B would shrink the pool to 25 meters and prioritize a large leisure pool, limiting athletic opportunities for the children who rely on this facility the most.
This is an issue of equity, public health, and honoring the history of a neighborhood that has fought for access at every turn.
