The Stage Still Waiting For Godot
Samuel Beckett never goes out of style, it seems. There's a new starry revival of WAITING FOR GODOT, on Broadway, reports Alexis Soloski in The New York Times.
And the point of discussion is how Godot is to be pronounced.
Soloski writes, "The actor Brandon J. Dirden articulates a variation on the word Godot at least a dozen times a night in the current Broadway revival of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot. As he speaks, vowels and consonants dance around in his mouth, emerging as Godet, Goday, Godan, Godin, Gahdeh."
More interesting is the fact that Keanu Reeves stars in the production, with Alex Winter as Didi and Gogo, while Dirden plays Pozzo.
Beckett, when asked about how the name is pronounced had replied, "If I knew, I would have said so in the play."
And in case, Godot keeps 'em waiting, which is the point of the play.
