Baring The Soul On Stage
Peter Dewar has written an autobiographical play, MATT, "that reflects his own battle with depression, anxiety and addiction to prescription painkillers - which saw him receiving weeks of treatment," according to a report by Mariam Issimdar in bbc.com
"The play - also available as a book - charts his recovery, exploring themes of hope and healing, and the transformative power of support from family, friends and the community," she writes.
"If there's one thing I would like audiences to take away from MATT is that it is possible to overcome seemingly impossible challenges with the help of others," said Dewar, in the piece.
Helping other through their troubles seems like a worthwhile goal of theatre.
"Acting is not about dressing up. Acting is about stripping bare. The whole essence of learning lines is to forget them so you can make them sound like you thought of them that instant."
