Dear Reader,
Stars Shine On Broadway
There has been a debate over casting movie stars in stage productions, but so many of them have been nominated for the Tony Awards this year, it looks like they have earned their place on stage.
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe and recent Oscar nominee Rose Byrne are among the stars recognised at this year's Tony Awards, which celebrate the best in US theatre.
Lesley Manville, John Lithgow and Layton Williams are also nominated at this year's event for their performances on Broadway in the last year.
Steven McIntosh reports in
bbc.com, "Radcliffe is nominated for his role in
Every Brilliant Thing, a one-man play about depression, while Byrne is recognised for her performance in Noël Coward's comedy
Fallen Angels.
Lesley Manville and Mark Strong are recognised for their role in Greek tragedy
Oedipus, and Lithgow for his portrayal of Roald Dahl in
Giant. Both productions previously played in the West End.
"Former Strictly contestant Williams is also recognised for his role as the iceberg in another London transfer, musical parody
Titaníque.
Manville, Lithgow and Williams have all previously won Oliviers for their performances in the West End."
Which just goes to show that you can't keep a good actor down, no matter what the platform may be.
"To enter a theatre for a performance is to be inducted into a magical space, to be ushered into the sacred arena of the imagination."
