The Hills Are Still Alive
Some musicals never age, even though they may get dated
Margaret Hall reports in playbill about yet another revival of the perenially popular THE SOUND OF MUSIC.
"A revival of the beloved musical will play the Vivian Beaumont Theater next spring as a part of Lincoln Center Theater's newly announced 2026–27 season," she writes.
The play about a novice nun-turned governess and later stepmother to the seven Von Trapp children, has immortalized Julie Andrews as the irrepressible Maria, but the production being directed by Lear deBessonet and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, will star Tony nominee Jasmine Amy Rogers as Maria, with more creative team members and casting to be announced. Rogers is not white and blonde, so this bit of inclusive casting is raising a lot of interest. She has already made theatre history by being the first Black woman to play Betty Boop in the musical, BOOP, and critics had raved over a new star being born.
The youngsters who go watch this production, will finally understand why their mothers and grandmothers loved THE SOUND OF MUSIC!
