Dear Reader,
A Beloved Film Is Adapted For The Stage
Thirty-five years after two women at the end of their tether drove their car off a cliff, the beloved 1991 feminist classic,
Thelma And Louise is to be turned into a musical stage production. The film, directed by Ridley Scott, starring Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis is still as meaningful as it was when it first came out.
The show stars Rachel Tucker and Louise and Amy Lennox as Thelma, with an original score by Grammy-nominated artist Neko Case. The production carries a book by Callie Khouri, who wrote the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning screenplay on which it is based, and will be directed by Trip Cullman.
The website of the Young Vic, co-producer of the production says, " On a whim, Louise invites her best friend Thelma for a spontaneous weekend getaway. After an ill-fated encounter with a stranger at a roadside honkytonk, their lifelong friendship is forged into something dangerous and unbreakable. Propelled by a soaring musical score, they set out on a last-chance adventure in a world where every card is stacked against them."
"It's still a wild and emotional ride made even better by the contribution of the enormous talents of Neko Case, Trip Cullman and our amazing creative team," Khouri said in a
Variety piece by Naman Ramachandran. "I can't wait for audiences to experience this timely re-telling."
The mark of a great piece of work is that it never fades, and can always be repurposed in another medium, because the message is still strong.
"Acting is the greatest answer to my loneliness that I have found."
