Dear Reader,
The Show Always Goes On Theatre actors in Mumbai are constantly commuting for shows from one end of the city to another, or rushing from one city to the next, without taking a break. They won't understand the fuss about an actor in the UK travelling 150 miles. It has been reported in multiple news outlets, how Jessica Daley made the trip so thar a performance of EVITA could take place after the lead and the understudy fell ill. The Curve theatre in Leicester put out an urgent call for a replacement who could appear on stage at short notice. According to Charles Maloney's piece in The Guardian, "Daley travelled from her home in Middlesbrough to sing the demanding part in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s play, which follows the central character from childhood to her rise to power as the second wife of Argentine president Juan Perón...The theatre shared a picture of Daley receiving a standing ovation, alongside the words: She is a diamond – a huge round of applause for Jessica Daley!” What is undoubtedly remarkable us that she must have performed with no rehearsal, or maybe a very quick one! Meanwhile in Mumbai, a line up of plays us there to be watched for free at the Kala Ghoda Festival. The schedule appears kn the MTG site to help pick... so go ahead, fill up that cultural basket."Theatre exists only because it is overwhelming, because its acting is astonishing. Where a theatre and its acting are merely 'good,' merely 'correct,' merely 'in the proper style,' theatre dies a slow death."
