This
Sunday October 30th 2-5pm join in on a
Wild Fermentation Workshop
with Rob, Liane & Andrea. Historically important before widespread
refrigeration as a way to preserve abundant foods from grains and
vegetables to dairy, beans, meat and fruit, fermented foods are part of
the traditional diets of cultures all over the planet. Many commonly
eaten foods and beverages are fermented. Fermentation provides live
friendly probiotic bacteria into our diets, which hundreds of scientific
studies demonstrate to be beneficial to human health. Make Kimchi,
Sour Dough & Sauerkraut to take home. Learn the process for Miso,
Amazake, Buttermilk, Yogurt/Lebneh & Kombucha (Take home a mother to
start your own tea at home). Tastings of Miso, Dosa/Idli, Kimchi,
Sauerkraut, Kombucha and other fermented products. Suggested Donation
$35-40. Please bring 2-3 quart size water tight containers – glass is
recommended. Space limited to 15 students. Reserve a space by emailing
carrborog...@gmail.com
Sunday November 20th 2-5pm join us for a Cheese Making Workshop
with Laurel Shulman (formerly of Hillsborough Cheese Co.). Learn the
general process of cheese making which can be applied to making any
cheese and the history of traditional methods in relation to culture
and environment. We’ll be making farmer’s cheese and paneer, and
stretching mozzarella. Take these skills home to try with family and
friends. Making your own cheese is a great way to cut down on
packaging, ensure freshness and have fun; We’ll also cover some local
sources for milk (goat & cow) and for cultures. Suggested donation:
$35-40. Space is limited to 15 people. Reserve your space by emailing carrborog...@gmail.com
Community Events:
Tuesday November 1st, 6-8pm: Internationalist Books' Annual Membership Meeting - Annual meeting and get-together for members! This meeting is open to
you if you are not a member but would like to become one, or if your
membership is not current; we will be issuing and renewing memberships
at the event. The purpose of the meeting is to vote on the new Board, so come on
out, enjoy some delicious food catered by Vimala and exercise your right as a member to vote on Board members, who
shape the future of the store!
This
Wednesday November 2nd, 7:30pm join
Occupy Chapel Hill/Carrboro for a community
film screening of “Meltdown: After the Fall,”
the last part of a four part documentary series from Al Jazeera on the
current financial crisis and who brought us here. Open discussion to
follow film. Come, learn more about the movement, bring your neighbor,
your parents, your friends and lend your support if you’re tired of
being occupied by Wall Street!
Friday November 4th, Peter, Lydia, their one year old Eloy and Omar will host “Baby’s Sing Song Time.” This is a bi-weekly event happening every other Friday from 10 am – 11 am.
Bring your little, little ones for music playing and song singing.
Please help us spread the word. Hope to see you and your little one
there!
Thank you for your support; we wouldn't be here without it. Have a wonderful week!
