Tonight, we are blessed to be joined by Daniel Shea Dunn, who served a ten year sentence, got out in 2015 and graduated from University of Washington with a Bachelor's in Business in 2019. Daniel helped to co-found A Touch Of Light in 2013 while still incarcerated, and really began to build it up starting in 2016. He has done several international art shows (Hong Kong and Kenya), and some cool collaborations (including Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis). Daniel had a chance to speak at the United Nations in New York last year, and is gearing up for another possible trip/international art show this November.
Daniel will be talking about the foundation started by him and his father, Richard Dunn. Richard has been incarcerated as a "pre-trial detainee" at a shadow prison (a.k.a. civil commitment facility) in Washington State, for nearly 25 years. Richard has maintained his innocence and fought his original case this whole time. He overturned six of the original nine charges in his case, and has served time in nine prisons across four different states as a Washington State prisoner.
Richard founded his organization, A Touch of Light, from inside the shadow prison. For the last 12 years, A Touch of Light has been involved in working with prisoners domestically and globally, with a specific focus on working with veterans and people being released, through the framework of Captive Art (meaning art produced by incarcerated persons)
