RECENT NARSOL & AFFILIATE NEWS
[Jan. 27, 2025] - 43 Organizations across the US Send Message to U.S. Supreme Court Ahead of All-Advocates Vigil
In advance of the all-advocates vigil to be held in Washington, D.C., March 2-3, a letter signed by 43 organizations, including NARSOL and its affiliates, will be mailed to the Supreme Court. When the Court, on March 5, 2003, issued its decision in Smith v. Doe, 538 U.S. 84, the lives of millions of American citizens were negatively and significantly impacted, specifically the lives of those required to register as sexual offenders as well as members of their families; and their communities were torn asunder.  Click Here to Read the Full Letter

[Feb. 7, 2025] - Delaware Stops Printing "Sex Offender" on Registrant IDs (Share on X) (Share on LinkedIn)
Starting Feb. 7, 2025, the state of Delaware has agreed to stop printing “sex offender” on the drivers licenses of people with registerable offenses. NARSOL Associated Group Delaware Advocates for the Reform of Sexual Offense Laws (DARSOL), the ACLU of Delaware, NARSOL's Legal Team, and Attorney Guy Hamilton-Smith led the effort.

[Feb 12, 2025] New Lawsuit in IL to Correct Errors on the Public Registry
Illinois Voices filed a proposed class action lawsuit today against the Illinois State Police to challenge ISP's failure to provide a fair and effective procedure to correct errors in the registry. You can read the complaint here. Any placement on the sex offender registry is stigmatizing. Still, errors on the registry website -- such as incorrect designation as a "sexual predator" or wrong information about the nature of the conviction -- exacerbate the legal, financial, and repetitional harms of the registry for registrants and their loved ones. Illinois Voices asks the court to order ISP to implement procedures to ensure that errors on the registry are corrected in a fair and reasonably timely manner.
