| Hello my beloved WAR members, I haven't written in a while, other than announcing the WAR rooms, but I have a request I'd like to ask of you. I've been on the National Coalition Against Conviction Registries for about a year now, and regrettably, I haven't told you much about it until now.
The NCACR meets twice a month (once with just the steering committee and once with the whole group. So once or twice a month, and more when you count the work of the subcommittees) we are writing up shared talking points, sharing our successes, getting empathy for our setbacks, and generally learning to work together in supportive and healthy ways. We are building a real community of fellow advocates who learn from each other and help each other accomplish our goals. Small committees have worked together crafting shared messaging on all kinds of topics. We have a shared set of 2-pagers to help people craft good messaging in all the places we should be communicating. There is also a Call to Action page, where member organizations can request the assistance of the coalition and each of our many members. To aid in communication there will be an events page, where everyone shares what's coming up in their organization. This allows people who have been fighting this fight for decades to join brains with people who are new for advice and guidance while gaining inspiration from newer arrivals on the scene. I have found my collaborations with my fellow advocates to be incredibly valuable so far! Which brings me to my ask. So far, all of the funding for NCACR has come from the generosity of Restorative Action Alliance. But unfortunately, RAA recently lost a sponsor they had lined up to pay for a subscription to a community platform called Heartbeat. Heartbeat is a tool that will be of great value by allowing us to develop a shared platform that the community can use for a wide range of things. It will be a protected social media space where we can all interact (and nobody will need to worry about getting kicked off by Facebook!) We can use it to host events and store all our shared resources. Each of the sub-organizations who are members of NCACR (like WAR and RAA and NARSOL, etc.) will have subspaces where we can communicate with each other about committee work, fundraising, events, etc. Greg and I are definitely planning to personally donate to this cause, and Women Against Registry will donate also, but it would be nice if other people helped too. Our goal is $6,000, which will cover all the costs to build the platform and pay the fees for the first two years.
