Hello, CURE pals,

Below is information about something we can do this week regarding gun violence in Illinois.  Basically, there will be a town hall meeting in Champaign on Thursday Nov 13 to discuss proposed legislation to make gun sellers pay a fee to sell guns in Illinois.  The fee will be based upon the casualties already caused by such a gun in Illinois.  The more it has been used to kill or wound people, the greater the fee.  The money will be used to compensate future victims of the particular gun model. Champaign will be the first of a series of townhalls which will be held throughout the state.

All it takes for tyrants to win is for good people to do nothing.

This Thursday, 11/13, there will be a community town hall at 6-7:30 pm at the I-Hotel. It is to talk about public safety, especially a bill that is in the state legislature currently called the RIFL ACT (HB3320/SB2279). This bill, if it becomes law, would make gun manufacturers pay a fee in order to be able to sell their guns in Illinois. The money from those fees would go into a fund to pay gun violence victims and their families for their medical bills. It would not hinder the Second Amendment, because they could still sell their firearms in Illinois. They would simply have to agree to pay up front for gun violence compensation. (Senator Paul Faraci was one of the first State Senators to sign on.)

There will be town halls throughout the state. But Champaign is the first one, So, we need to have a good showing. Both mayors will be speaking. Rep Ammons will be speaking. The Urbana Police Chief will be speaking. The County Coroner will be speaking. (Among others.)

Please sign-up with this Eventbrite link, so we can have a count on how many attendees to expect. (There is also a lot of information about this in the link.) Also, send it to others who may be interested. This is a community, non-partisan event.
