Title:  DISASTER:  Trump officials HUMILIATE themselves in public

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDrDdtffguE&ab_channel=BrianTylerCohen

8-27-25  Dose of Democracy substack

Synopsis of Brian Cohen’s video post:

Trump’s officials debase themselves in a three-hour humiliation ritual.

Our country's descent into a grim caricature of authoritarian strongman rule so outrageous that even the North Koreans would be offended continued apace on Tuesday with a three-hour long White House Cabinet circle jerk, wherein every official took turns fawning over Donald Trump, praising him and touting his fantastical accomplishments. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy declared, "Mr. President, it is pretty great to celebrate labor day with a builder who loves labor, who loves the men and women who built this country, the people who sweat" (Trump has never labored a day in his life). Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff weepily wished that "the Nobel committee finally gets its act together and realizes you are the single finest candidate since this Nobel award was ever talked about, to receive that award." Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent gushed, "You have brought us back from the edge. You are restoring confidence in government." Roadkill butcher RFK Jr. lauded Trump for "saving the whales" by ending windmills, which he claimed have killed 160 whales over the past two years (???). Sec. of Commerce Howard Lutnick crowned Donald the "crypto president" and vowed to put GDP statistics on the blockchain (which would literally do nothing). Sec. of Agriculture Brooke Rollins breathlessly thanked the MAGA cult leader for "saving college football" (??????). Marco Rubio claimed the meeting was the "most important labor day of his life." Seriously, we are just a few weeks away from the secretary of State publicly thanking Trump for allowing the Sun to rise. Just a repulsive and utterly demeaning show of bowing and scraping from a group of shameless sycophants willing to do anything to get their share of the pie while helping Lord Goldemort burn the bakery down to the ground around them.

8-27-25  Daily Dose of Democracy substack

Synopsis of HuffPost article by Ed Mazza:

Democrats flip key seat in Iowa district that Trump won by double digits.

In what hopefully is a sign of better things to come in 2026, Democrats broke the GOP's supermajority in the Iowa state Senate with Catelin Drey's decisive victory in the special election for Iowa's 1st district. DNC Chair Ken Martin said that the party had deployed 30,000 volunteers to help get out the vote, leading to a 55%-45% victory for Drey and the flip of the district for the first time in more than 15 years. These kinds of victories are exactly why Republicans are desperately trying to rewrite the maps and eke out a few extra seats — the blowback to Trump's unspeakable cruelty and nihilistic destruction is coming, and they're justifiably terrified.

Synopsis of MSNBC post:

Jeanine Pirro’s office fails three times to convince grand jurors to return indictment against woman who “pushed FBI agent’s hand against the wall.”

In a deeply welcomed show of resistance to the Trump regime's fascistic crackdowns, THREE grand juries in Washington, DC, all refused to indict Sidney Reid for allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer. The "assault" in question? Reid is accused of having "forcefully pushed” an FBI agent’s hand against a cement wall and "caused lacerations" during an immigration enforcement protest. The idea that this woman assaulted anyone while she was being manhandled by the cops is preposterous, and hopefully this sets a strong precedent for the undoubtedly many more cases to come. In a potent reminder for this case and others, Reid's lawyers said Pirro "can try to concoct crimes to quiet the people, but in our criminal justice system, the citizens have the last word."

Synopsis from The Guardian post by George Chidi:

NAACP sues Texas over congressional redistricting, saying it strips Black voters of political powerStripping Black and Brown voters of political power in Texas was precisely the point. Donnie told Texas Republicans he needed five more seats and they tripped over themselves to deliver. But hey, what's a little more racial gerrymandering in a state with a very, long track record of blatant disenfranchisement?
