Dear Colorado activist, Amnesty proponents are using every conceivable means to promote amnesty this year. In Colorado, proponents have even organized a "buy-cott" of businesses that support amnesty. The organizers -- the Colorado Main Street Alliance, the Colorado Progressive Coalition, the NAACP, and the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition -- are urging consumers to spend at the businesses that display posters advertising their support for amnesty. So far, 400 businesses, ranging from a ski area to neighborhood restaurants, have signed up for the
"buy-cott" campaign, which will run from Aug. 4 to 10. We have included a current list of participants further below. The Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform (CAIRCO), a long-time immigration enforcement group, is promoting a boycott of these "buy-cott" businesses. As you'll note in the CAIRCO blog below, they urge those who support enforcement-oriented reform to let these businesses know that advocating amnesty will actually cost them business. Some options: stop by a business with a "buy-cott" sign, or call them on the phone, to say you won't shop there until the sign is taken down. Even better, tell them to take the sign down and replace it with an E-Verify sign, which implies
the business only hires those eligible to work in the United States.
