Hi all,

We are in the process of modifying the way Curatescape data is structured. In the future, we plan to use Omeka "item type" metadata fields to store data that doesn't naturally fit into existing Dublin Core fields. This will give us greater flexibility going forward and will improve the overall semantics of the underlying metadata records. This should also make it easier for site admins to find currently-obscure features (like using a second title to create a subtitle) and add non-Curatescape records. At present, we are considering the following elements in a proposed "Curatescape Item" type:
  • Subtitle: A subtitle or alternate title for the entry.
  • Lede: A brief introductory section that is intended to entice the reader to read the full entry.
  • Story: The primary full-text for the entry.
  • Sponsor: The name of a person or organization that has sponsored the publication of this specific entry.
  • Factoid: One or more facts or pieces of trivia related to the entry, often presented as a list.
  • Related Resources: The name of or link to a related resource, often used for citation information.
  • Official Website: An official website related to the entry. Use HTML to create an active link.

We'd like to know how you feel about these additions. Do you think these would be helpful? Are there any others you would propose? Please share specific ways these or other fields would help improve your Curatescape site.

Thanks -- Erin

PS: In making this change we have prepared plugins that will 1) automatically add all of the required item types and elements, and 2) automatically update data from existing sites to fit into the new data model. In other words, this will not create extra work for you!

We've added a new proposed element to the list above:
  • Access Information: Information regarding physical access to a location, including restrictions (e.g. "Private Property"), walking directions ("To reach the peak, take the trail on the left"), or other useful details ("Location is approximate").
