Team,
While this comes as no surprise it's the time of year where those who don't really like this sport start making their exit. I have no problem with this as I would never want to encourage anyone to do something they don't like doing. That's bad for both them and the team. What I do encourage though is making it through your whole first year as a rower. Nothing can compare to spring racing in life, and I want you all to have the opportunity to see what I'm talking about.
If you're having a tough time finding motivation to work your ass off every day it's understandable, but if you don't learn how to do that now you may never do so as an adult. I'll go back to the example of living with your parents out of necessity post college. Rowers form this time just don't do that. They know how too work too hard and expect more of themselves.
Like I said at the beginning of the year and this winter this is the hardest thing you'll do, but the most rewarding. The next few months will be the hardest of the year as a whole. If you can't handle that I understand since few can, but keep in mind there's a whole team and coaching staff here to help you if you're having a tough time.
With all that being said we've had enough guys drop that I've cut our Monday and Thursday shifts down to 2 instead of 3. While you won't really get to sleep later you will get a proper warmup and cool down period. Make sure to see which time you're in now. There will be enough time for everyone to make an 8am even if they are in the 6:30 shift. Keep in mind you are on your erg at 5:00 and 6:30, not setting up or undressing.
