Team,

Attached you'll find this month's 2k, last month's and last year's April 2k. Keep in mind these numbers are run off of 2k test times only, not off of who is actually in each boat for their technique and power application.

Novice 8:

Your current average score is 6:48.4. This is .6 total seconds faster than the last test, so really little speed gained.  Last year's top novice 8 ergs average at this time were a 6:44.3, or about one split faster.  So you are in a similar ballpark as last year's novice 8, but a tad slow.  A few of these top ergs still need to have better technique and power application to the water to make it in to the Novice 8 for racing.  I've seen improvements out of you novices in contention, but to be a grands final crew at ACRA you still have more speed and technique you need to pick up.

Varsity 8:

These numbers are slightly skewed as Tyler cannot test due to injury and Tobey hasn't eaten in 3 weeks, so they will be better on water then they are on paper.  The current average time for the top 8 ergs not in the Novice Top 8  is 7:10.2.  This is 4.1 total seconds slower than last month.  Last year's same group of ergs average at this time was a 6:57.5.  Obviously that's a large disparity.  Again this boat performs on water better than that, but it is not the same level of speed as last year.  Your performance for the rest of your season is truly dependent upon how much extra work you're willing to put it.  The technique is good enough to do as well as last year. Your erg scores need improvement.

For the rest of the year going forward we won't have another official 2k test as a group.  I urge you to spend more time on the erg then you have been.  I'll ask you in early May before finals to submit one more test for me, but I'll accept tests all the way to ACRA for consideration when making boat lineups.

As always if you have any questions please feel free to email.
