Here's a short breakdown of your heats.
Novice 8 3:36pm
3 boats from this heat advance to the semifinal. The next six fastest times out of all the heats go to the C Final. Any remaining boats are done racing.
Lane 2 George Washington: Perennially fast fully funded varsity crew. Likely a grands contender.
Lane 3 Florida: Slightly slower crew by results than you guys, but will make for an opponent you'll need to actively beat
Lane 4 Colorado
Lane 5 Washington of St Louis: Perennially a similar speed to our novice crews but they appear to be having an off year as they lost to Florida by 10 seconds in March. They still need to be actively beaten.
Lane 6 Georgia Tech: Club but generally very good. Our novice 8 last year fought then tooth and nail and beat them. Boy was their coach pissed and probably reprimanded. They are fast again this year and will be the closest to you speed. This is who you are really aiming to beat. If you can race with these guys you should be able to drop Wash U and Florida
Overall this is not an easy heat. No one here is a pushover. You have to relax and put down your rowing and you can advance to semis. To do so you need to beat two of these teams, but three would be better. Always keep in mind that times count for future seeding as well, so you're always racing no matter what.
Varsity 8 6:30 last event of the day

Lane 2 Virginia Tech: Results are hard to find but the times I see aren't great. They're all the way on the other side but they are beatable.
Lane 3: Purdue: A Grands level ACRA team this year. They and Virginia will be out front.
Lane 4: Virginia: Same as Purdue
Lane 5: Wichita State In all honesty I couldn't ask for a better team to race then our Plains rivals. You will see them two more times so we'll see what's what at this race. They've posted okay results, not great. It's my feeling they have more experienced guys in their boat, but our training is much more intense. If you're willing to sacrifice early and crush their spirit in the first 1k you have the potential to beat them and VA Tech. That would put you in semis. If you race with the right mentality it is doable.
