RidingWiller Night Bus?2011/4/7 19:44 Has anyone tried Willer Night Bus? I think I will be boarding one on my trip to Akita. How would you describe your experience? Also, will there be restroom stop overs or something?

Also, I found this video on youtube ( =8-7CcbH3Mk0&feature=related) and the guy is speaking in Japanese. I'm quite worried that if on my trip, same thing happens and I won't understand a thing.by lastmockingbird

Rode the Willer Night Bus in Nov 20102011/4/9 06:54 I rode the Willer Night Bus in November 2010 from to Tokyo to Hiroshima. I speak no Japanese. I had no problems. The bus stops every two hours at a roadside rest area where there is a convenience store and restrooms. The stop is usually 15 minutes. So 4 stops adds a hour to your trip. I saved the cost of the 3 day bus pass on this single trip - no hotel stay. The downside is the trip took about 12 hours.

I also used the bus pass from Nagoya to Tokyo, but it was an afternoon trip.by Wayne523rate this post as useful

no problem2011/4/9 17:50 no problem, just go

the hardest part is finding the bus you're supposed to ride - i'm almost fluent in japanese and i had a hard time finding out which bus to get on as there are like 2 or 3 dozen buses waiting in several different places, some of them with the same company and same destination.

but once you manage to find your bus it's quite easy - and if you tell the driver you need to get off at a specific stop he'll probably remember you (you'll usually be the only "visible" gaijin on a bus, in my experience) and make an announcement just for you to let you know to get off.

i've ridden willer buses all over japan - aomori, nagoya, mie etc. one thing - on longer trips a good seat on a better bus makes a big difference - the cheapest buses are ok for short trips like to nagoya but anything longer, it's rough - the seats are much more cramped than an airliner seat.by winterwolfrate this post as useful

Good service and cheap too2011/4/9 18:33 I took their bus from Tokyo to Kyoto and back and was impressed by their services, politeness and friendliness. Bus was clean and comfortable. I purchased their 10,000 yen (3 tickets) but I only used 1 ticket which was still some savings as bullet train to & fro costs $300. I chose the one with restroom on return trip from Kyoto to Tokyo but it was ok from Tokyo to Kyoto as toilet stops every 2 hours. Just don't drink too much water or take any food your stomach cannot take. It is basically a coach and the driver drives safely and quickly with announcement for every destination. Wasn't difficult to find boarding points as maps prior to departure (on their website) under Boarding Points. Just research before you depart for your trip.by GAbrielle (guest)rate this post as useful

which bus?2011/4/9 20:25 about finding which Willer bus, should it be that upon your arrival at the station (in my case Shinjuku), the personeel should tell you where your bus with the number on your "member card" (sent via e-mail) is parked?

by lastmockingbirdrate this post as useful

bus2011/4/12 19:40 the ticket gives you the bus number and there may also be a kind of vague map on it too but to be honest i found it useless - even finding where the buses are parked can be a bit challenging / weird. the first time i took the buses from shinjuku i couldn't figure out how to reach where they were from the exit i was at so i ended up walking through the shinjuku city bus loops just to get across the street..heh, pain in the butt. figured it out later on.

but there are also dozens of buses lined up along the road so you'll have to look carefully for which one is yours.

get there early and you won't have any problems though.by winterwolfrate this post as useful

.2011/4/14 12:11 i've had a few experiences with Willer Express before.

it's ok, for the price it's pretty decent and I had no problems except for lack of sleep which is entirely my fault since I can't sleep properly on overnight trips - trains, buses, planes (boats are ok if you gotta bed)

don't worry about the language barrier so much, they got a list of names for people and the staff will help you with your luggage and seat number.

just remember when the guy who stows ur luggage away asks you a question in japanese, he's just asking you where your final destination is/where are you going?

a hint, is if you can't speak the language, and you know you won't be able to understand the driver's announcement, just check the arrival time in your email which is also your ticket and watch the time. when the bus stops at that time, double check with the driver that its the destination you're getting off and you'll be fine.

cheers ^^

manners2011/4/17 02:40 I just road a night bus for the first time and it was females-only Willer, Yokohama to Kyoto.

What people with little knowledge of the language should keep in mind are all the manners. The staff encourages you to do a lot of stuff in order to keep each passengers peace and privacy.

The bus is basically designed so that passengers could sleep all the way. Therefore, you should...

Keep quiet.

Inform the passenger behind you as you push down your backrest. (You can say, "Taoshite iidesuka?" which means "May I push down my seat?")

Keep the window curtains shut so that no lights or chill will come in.

The bus I road had a clean white towel covering the seat and a thin but warm blanket. I found them comfy, but got my black jacket covered with fluffballs from the towel. You might want to bring along some sort of sticky cleaner to stick off the fluff.

Other than that, it was a wild ride on our upstairs seat. It didn't make us sick, but I was woken up repeatedly by the shakes and bumps, although that was also the fun part of the experience. Your seat will be fully surrounded by curtains.

Great option when you don't have money but have enough energy.by Uco (guest)rate this post as useful
