Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor:  If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.  But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.  Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.  But how can one keep warm alone?  Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.  A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Luke 13:29

People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.

This week we celebrate World Communion Sunday.  We unite our spirits with those of God’s people around the world as we celebrate this sacred sacrament!    In this moment we glimpse the beauty of God’s greater kingdom – a place where every tribe, tongue and nation come together and join peacefully at the banquet table prepared for us.  In these moments it is our differences that unite us.  It is our love for God and for each other that binds us in a special way.  And our praise is that much stronger as the God of justice dines with His children, his family, all of creation.

Though we cannot limit God, we limit ourselves and our relationship by building up barriers.  What brick wall is erected in your heart and mind this week?  How can you begin to destroy that wall and remold those bricks into bridges?

God of peace, author of unity, the ONE we adore, grant us a passion for your heart.  Help us to strive for the unity that you desire for your kingdom here on earth.  And may our voices join as ONE in praising your glorious name!  Amen!

SONG OF UNITY

In Christ there is no East or West, in Him no South or North.

But one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide earth.

One world communion under grace, one hope, one Lord, one faith.

We are one song, we are one people.  We have one hope, one God above.

We are one voice, we are one music.  We are one great song of love.

We are one world, we are one spirit; one great church in Christ’s embrace.

We take one Bread, one Wine unites us.  We are bonded in God’s grace.

Like the colors of the sunset, as the sands upon the shore,

Each of us is very different, yet we work in one accord.

Our differences make music, a harmony of life,

a symphony of sharing, one purpose, one vision, one in Christ!

We are one, a world communion.  We are one in Christ’s embrace.

We are one in our faith.  We are one in our praise!

We are one in God’s glorious grace.  We are one!
