As some of you close to VCC Endura know, three of us qualified for US Adventure Racing Association Nationals last November under the team The Hall Way or No Way formed by Travis Hall. Members include Travis Hall, David Hall and myself.
We have been competing this summer in the Unbridled Adventure Race Series at Kentucky State Parks. We are currently ranked #1 in the 3-4 person open male division and #1 overall in the series. We have had some rough races but I can say as a coach these two guys are professional and handle adversity very well. They are an honor to work and compete with!
We leave October 1st for Pine Mountain State Park. There is a pre-race meeting that evening and the race starts Friday morning at 8am. It goes for 30 hours and will involve navigation, trekking, paddling and mountain biking. There is no set course as we are given grid points to plot and navigate to based on the specified rules for the race.
Needless to say this is has been the focus for the team this year. We encourage everyone to check and follow along on Facebook via
fb.com/vccendura or
fb.com/thehallwayornoway. Look up USARA and USARA Nationals on Google. We hope they offer live tracking this year and if so we will have someone post that information later.
As with most adventure races, the cost of entry is high compared to other disciplines. We are currently working with our sponsors to secure additional funding to cover some of this so we are not each paying out of pocket. If any individual wishes to help out, please contact me off list.
Adventure Racing is night and day from road racing. While we will continue to race road, you can bet we will doing more adventure races in coming years. Stay tuned for more details as we enter 30 days to Nationals.
