From Jenny Denney
Last year around this time I was carrying a lot of extra weight after the 2nd baby and I felt hopeless. My norm in previous years was fit and fast. Frankly, I thought I was done. I forced myself to do the indoor program that my husband (Aaron) put on but I was negative and felt it was a waste of time. I was too far gone. It wasn't until February or March I began to realize that I wasn't lagging behind everyone and I found myself a little more motivated to watch my numbers and push a little more than I had. My weight was falling, I had more energy and I started to feel like my old self again. When it came time for the road i was shocked at my ability to stay with the group and even push myself.
That being said, I want to encourage anyone who has been curious about riding on a trainer through the winter to attend indoor training. It REALLY does make a difference. Sure, ride it at home but there is something about riding with a group of people that motivates and keeps you accountable. Friendships build and fitness flourishes.
There are different options out there but our specific program might be one you are interested in. It is a 20 week progressive program that allows you to work on developing efficiency. This is not just a “maintain” fitness type of program, it continues to help you improve on where you are at. What's cool about it is you will get to do a performance test that will determine YOUR training zones so that you train at YOUR level of ability. Everyone is training together but everyone's goal is set at their own level. This is not a cookie cutter, one size fits all experience.
We meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 PM at Cumberland Cycles Bike Shop. Anyone is welcome regardless of your level. We start with floor core exercises and move to a 55-75 minute skills and interval based trainer workout. Again, these are progressive from week to week so the sooner you can commit the better. You can join at whatever time is convenient, however. All you need is a bike, trainer, and floor mat/towel.
Again, you may have plans already but I just wanted to invite those who might be interested. I have passed my USA Cycling certified coaching exam and am kind of taking on more of a helpful role for women who are seeking to become more efficient on a bicycle. Let me know if anyone is interested or would like more information.
