Dear Subscriber,
It gives me immense pleasure to announce the launch of the latest - the ninth - issue of Umbra, our publication on alternative narratives around cinema in the country. It is called 'Our Gods: Part Two', and is the second part of our double-issue around the subject of the depictions of divine in cinema and its auxiliary forms.
All of our digital subscribers will please find attached a copy of the issue, both for individual, and institutional purposes. You may also login to your account at umbra.lightcube.in in order to access the issue. The present issue contains, in the truest of our traditions at Umbra, a series of pieces that will present our reader with a rich and entirely novel perspective on a diverse range of films or events related to film.
The main contents of the present issue are:
- A photo-essay from a village in the Himalayas,
- Reviews of the streaming show, American Gods, and the film, Wings of Desire,
- An examination of the leakage between Tamil icon, MGR's political and film career,
- A review of Peter Brook's Mahabharata,
- A book review of Shamya Dasgupta's, Don't Disturb the Dead,
- An interview with Aruna Vasudev, the founder of Cinemaya.
I really do hope you enjoy the issue - please feel free to respond with your comments, reservations or statements of support. Please also share the word with acquaintances or friends you think may be interested in Umbra.
