It is nearly 3 months since Gauri Lankesh laid down her life for the cause of fearless and upright journalism and her commitment to the values of secularism and social equity. Her brutal, cold blooded assassination has stirred the conscience of all those who are deeply concerned about growing intolerance and anti-democratic forces which are getting emboldened day by day the present ruling dispensation. The global reaction to Gauri's killing clearly indicates peoples’  anger and concern for the climate of fear, intolerance and above all shrinking democratic space that is engulfing our country.

While very little progress has been made in booking the culprits, there has been utter slilence on the part of the ruling class. But people’s voice cannot be silenced nor can righteous dissent be subdued by violence.

Gauri memorial trust is an attempt to give voice to democracy, uphold right to dissent and fearlessness. While the event marks the launch of the Trust, it also is an occasion to remember her and the values she stood for. The speakers will talk about various aspects of democracy, what is under threat and why it is important to speak truth to power. It is only by speaking out that we can empower ourselves.

We request all lovers of democracy to join in this endeavor.
