Yahoo was pushing this video.  I checked it out.
 
I can see this at once as a case of the Ideological Family.  Its not any one of the things that Bialik speaks of, its rather that the whole thing is a postivistic program, and its that she thinks she knows what is best, and its that she rates herself and her husband so highly.
 
This kind of a family will entail very high expectations.  The children will carry those expectations.
 
This ideological approach, really  a liberal pedagogy, is how Bialik is able to protect herself from her own repressed childhood experience.
 
I am indebted to the psychoanalyst Alice Miller, "Drama of the Gifted Child", "For Your Own Good", "Thou Shalt Not Be Aware", for exposing this.
 
It amounts to sacificing children on the altar of denial and expectations.
 
These types of families are common where religion is a factor.  The religious form of Judaism in particular seems to be little more than such Familyism.  This core ideology can continue even if the observances have ceased for several generations, as they always were secondary.
