Unification Church, Artists, George Harrison, Natural Law Party

"Unification Church believers are preparing to set up a new organization following a Tokyo High Court order to dissolve the religious group, it was learned Thursday.

Unification Church-related sources said the establishment date for the new organization has not yet been decided.

The planned organization may not have legal status. Sources expect Masaichi Hori, a former head of the Unification Church in Japan, to lead it.

As the religious group undergoes liquidation, about 280 of its churches cannot be used, leaving about 100,000 believers to worship at home or online.

The new organization would accept donations and manage funds, the sources said."
"From cult success to mega stardom, life gets a whole lot weirder for most people when they get famous. Suddenly, their lives are under constant scrutiny from “their audience”, an entity that is simultaneously all-powerful yet completely unknowable.

Whose every demand is as vague as the memory of a dream, yet expected to be obeyed to the letter. Who wants complete authenticity from their heroes yet will never accept anything that doesn’t apply to their mental image of them.

Despite the madness that surrounds them, though, most famous people are told how lucky they are to be in their position and how grateful they should be for the privilege. A life of cognitive dissonance that you hate and love in equal measure.

However, some famous people are very familiar with living life this way. Some know exactly how it feels to have their life dictated by a force they simultaneously hate, fear and love in equal measure. To lead a completely separate life from everyone in the real world and think that it’s completely normal until they meet someone from outside of it. This is because there are more than a few famous people who grew up in cults."

"...After 1991, the guitar legend only performed in public a few more times before his death from cancer at age 58 on November 29, 2001. His final full-length concert took place on April 6, 1992, at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The star-studded show was a benefit for the Natural Law Party, a transnational political party based on the teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi."
