"The joint investigation team (headed by Kim Tae-hoon, Daejeon High Prosecutors' Office chief) probing allegations of "collusion between religion and politics" involving Shincheonji resumed a search and seizure operation on the People Power Party on the 3rd, ultimately securing party member lists and other materials.
According to the legal community, the team began the operation at 2 p.m. on the same day, targeting the People Power Party’s central headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, and a data management company handling the party’s member lists in Seoul, concluding the warrant execution around 7:30 p.m.
The team reportedly compared Shincheonji follower lists with the People Power Party’s member data to verify matches before seizing related materials. The operation proceeded with the party’s cooperation, according to sources.
Earlier, the team attempted a search and seizure at the People Power Party’s central headquarters from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the 27th of last month, spanning approximately 11 hours, but withdrew without significant results due to the party’s resistance."
"This episode of Cult Chat features a catch-up conversation with guests Dr. Kyle Eggleton and Tristan Phipps, both former members of the 2x2s (also known as The Truth or The Church with No Name). The discussion focuses on their ongoing advocacy work, the impact of recent media exposure, and the personal journey of leaving such a high-control group."
How can millions of people, many of whom are well-educated, find themselves willing to sacrifice family, friends, and careers, and follow anyone, particularly a leader of a destructive
cult?
Dr. Paul Engel, having been inside a cult, will share both his personal and professional experiences over the past fifty plus years in relation to the myths and realities of the
cultic experiences, to dystopias described in books such as 1984, as well as coercive control and the resulting relational trauma that is so pervasive in our culture.
Dr. Engel is Executive Director of the Flushing Jewish Community Council where he oversees operations and grant-run programs, such as a food pantry and QLICS (Queens Long
Island Counseling Services) counseling program.
A light breakfast will be served at 10:00am, followed by Dr. Engel’s presentation at 10:30am.
Please RSVP to the Hillcrest office (718-380-4145). This event is free for Hillcrest Jewish members. The fee for non-members is $5.
