to Cultivating Community

Good day,

I hope this message finds you well! I took a hiatus from the newsletter as I moved to Old Newmarket and now work as a postdoctoral researcher at Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto. I am working on an exciting project with the Global Centre for Climate Change and Transboundary Waters. However, I hope to have some new articles to share in the coming months.

I’m writing today, though, to share some wonderful news—my latest book, Cultivating Community: How Discourse Shapes the Philosophy, Practice, and Policy of Water Management in the Murray–Darling Basin, has just been published by Sydney University Press!

In Cultivating Community, I explore the critical water management issues facing the Murray–Darling Basin, a region vital to Australian agriculture and rural communities. Drawing on extensive field research with farmers and officials from the Murray–Darling Basin Authority, the book examines how various environmental ideologies influence water policy and the everyday practices of those directly affected.

Central to this work are four key environmental discourses shaping water management: administrative rationalism, economic rationalism, democratic pragmatism, and green environmentalism. I also introduce a new discourse—community centrism—emphasizing the importance of community-based cooperation in managing water resources for a more resilient future.

I would be thrilled if you could check it out. It’s available for purchase at major retailers, including Booktopia, Dymocks, The Nile, Readings, and Amazon. The ebook is also available on Google, Apple, and Amazon.
