The player interacts with the world with a simple point and click interface directing a small, white-clad humanoid with a little cap and brown boots (called simply "gnome" by Dvorsky). The goal of the Samorost games is to solve a series of puzzles and brain teasers. The puzzles are sequentially linked forming an adventure story. The game contains no inventory or dialogue, and the solving of puzzles mainly consists of clicking on-screen elements in the correct order. Solving a puzzle will immediately transport the player character to the next screen.
The game features surrealistic, organic scenarios that mix natural and technological concepts (often featuring manipulated photographs of small objects made to look very large), creative character designs and a unique musical atmosphere. Music tracks are available through iTunes.
The game starts as Gnome looks through telescope in his House. He suddenly spots a planet moving towards his home planet. He goes to his airship Polokonzerva and flies to the Planet. He lands on the planet and after some adventures he finds an engine room of the planet. He changes the planet's course so it narrowly misses Home Planet. Gnome then returns home as cheering is heard.
Samorost was created by Jakub Dvorsk while he was a student at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, in the department of Graphic Design and Visual Communication in 2003. Although short and simplistic in its gameplay, its surreal graphics and memorable score made the game stand out. The object of the game is to avert a collision between the gnome's home planet and a large incoming spaceship.
Samorost is a Czech word that is used to describe objects sculpted from discarded wood (roots, trunks, branches, etc.), usually for decorative purposes. The protagonist of the game lives on an asteroid that resembles such an object. Another meaning of 'samorost' is "maverick." The word is composed of the parts samo- ("self, auto-") and rost (form of růst, "to grow"). This could also be translated as "vagabond," "self-identifier," "individualist," or "wanderer," especially in the context of the protagonist.
A soundtrack for the video game Samorost was "selected by Amanita Design's founder Jakub Dvorsk from various sources".[1] It wasn't officially released on any format; however, it was ripped from the game by a fan and uploaded to the internet.[4]
Samorost 3 is an exploration adventure and puzzle game from the Amanita Design (creators of Machinarium) with original music by Floex.Soundtrack included in Cosmic Edition of the game (via samorost3.net ) or available separately (store.floex.cz/album/samorost-3-soundtrack)
I played through Samorost 1 and 2. The second game frustrated me at the end when I was trying to fill the taxi with gas but I figured out it was a bug and I just needed to wake the taxi driver up again. Now all that remains is to play Samorost 3
i have hardly played any video games in my life but all of the amanita design games were absolutely foundational media for my sister and i as children. they're incredibly beautiful and i listen to the soundtracks constantly. i literally cannot say enough how much i want other people to be able to experience them and how grateful i am to have done so myself. i'm 23 now and finally redownloading samorost 1 to play it, and i'm honestly emotional lmao i really highly recommend this game
The ASMR in your game is incredible. If I ever have stress or anxiety I just play Samorost and feel so happy and content better than a cup of chamomile and lavender tea. I loved the music, the graphics and the adorable gnome and whimsical creatures in this game. The only con I have is that this game is too short.
Gameplay is light. However, the clumsy characters and unnatural and unfinished environment seem to ironically lead the work to a more complete stage.
Due to the interaction of various devices, the following interactions are not expected! I couldn't stop the flow in the middle of the game because of my curiosity. Great work!
Maybe a few of you would like to take a look? One of the things is a point-and-click panoramic adventure game (first person Myst-like) made with miniature-art graphics. (It's called "Miniature Multiverse" and it's in active development) and there are also many other little things there too. Going on sale all in a bundle for about $1 on St. Pat's 2022.
