Hi Ethan,
Thanks for reaching out, and congratulations on completing the
UW GIS Certificate — that's a great foundation, and it's always
good to see the program pointing people our way.
I've gone ahead and added you directly to the CUGOS Google
Group, so you should start receiving messages shortly. That's
where we announce meetups, share job postings, and discuss all
things open-source geospatial. Feel free to introduce yourself
to the group whenever you like.
We hold regular meetings and occasional social events in Seattle
(next meeting is on Wednesday see
https://cugos.org/meetings/2026-09-16/ ; we'd love to see you
there.)
,
and they're a great way to meet other GIS folks working across a
wide range of sectors — government, non-profit, academia, and
industry.
If you have any questions in the meantime, don't hesitate to
ask.
Welcome aboard!
Cheers,
Karsten
CUGOS Board
Dear CUGOS,
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Ethan Hoffman and I’m exploring opportunities in the GIS field. Earlier this year, I earned a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems from the University of Washington to expand my GIS capabilities, and I learned of your organization through the UW program.
I would like to be part of your organization so that I can learn about how GIS is used in multiple sectors and connect with other GIS professionals. Would it be possible to join your organization’s Google Group so that I can stay up to date on any recent CUGOS developments?
I would be happy to provide you with any additional information about myself or any other details that you may need. Looking forward to connecting with your organization.
Sincerely,
Ethan Hoffman
