Hello CUGOSians,
The CUGOS board would like your input about Slack and other communication matters.
And most importantly, whether CUGOS should retire our Slack workspace and replace it with Zulip or Discord. And namely, because many of us in CUGOS have found Slack's 90-day message expiration -- which free Slack workspaces such as ours have -- to be rather inconvenient and frustrating. In any team or organization, one often wants or needs to refer back to conversations from 90+ days ago, for various reasons.
We'd really appreciate it if you could fill out this survey before our next board meeting on July 9:
We’ve contacted Zulip sales and have confirmed that as a 501(c)(6) we’re eligible for a free version of Zulip Cloud Standard, which has no message expiration. And they said that as of now they have no plans to ever enact a message expiration for it.
A couple of YT videos about Zulip:
A few things worth highlighting about Zulip:
Some info about Discord:
Many of us are familiar with Discord from gaming or from schools or other communities.
The main benefit of Discord over Zulip -- the main reason we're even considering Discord as an alternative -- is that many of us are already familiar with it and (unlike Zulip) have it on our PCs and on our phones, and so there might be many more of us willing to make the switch to it as opposed to the number willing to switch to Zulip.
We've contacted Discord support and said that as of now they have no plans to ever enact a message expiration for free Discord servers.
Do Zulip and Discord
both sound potentially good to you?
If so, we encourage you to learn more about them via your favorite AI chat bot. (It's tempting to copy/paste here what I got from a chatbot, but (A) I don't want to make this message any longer and (B) my questions to the chatbot oracle may have been biased by the fact that I was already leaning towards one of these platforms.
