Good morning CUGOS,

I have lots of updates for you today!

Fall Fling recordings online
Ranek Kiil has heroically edited the recordings for all 22 of our Fall Fling talks! You can watch them on our new Youtube channel, or find them linked by speaker from the Fall Fling landing page. Shoutout to Fred Lott for the catchy intro jingle 🎧

Board meeting
We had our first board meeting of 2026 last night, and you can already read the minutes online (thanks Karsten!). Here is your 2026 CUGOS board:
  • President: Nat Henry
  • VP: Stephen Mangum
  • Secretary: David Askov
  • Treasurer: Ethan Espie
  • Board members at large: Reily Love, Stephanie May, Karsten Vennemann
We are all really excited to get to work, which leads to our next item—

Upcoming CUGOS meeting: February 18
We want to hear from you about what we can do to make CUGOS even more welcoming, rewarding, and fun! I've added a brainstorming session to our February 18th meeting, which the  board will synthesize into a group-wide survey coming in late February. If you can't make the meeting but want to share your ideas/hopes/dreams for CUGOS, feel free to email me directly.

Seeking talks, building a backlog
We are also looking for talks at our February meeting! If you've got something you'd like to share, you can always add yourself to the meeting agenda.

If you want more lead time to prepare (or don't want to edit the agenda markdown file), please email or message me and I will add you to our backlog! I would especially like to hear from you if:
  • It's your first time presenting at CUGOS
  • It's been a while since you've given a talk
  • You're not sure whether your topic is a good fit for the meeting (I'm happy to discuss, but the answer is probably "yes")
We love open questions, projects don't need to be finished or polished, and talks can be as short as a couple of minutes.

That's all for now—I hope to see you at our next meeting on the 18th!

Thanks,
Nat
