Hi all,

I've been scratching my head over this for some time. I can't seem to
find out if the font in the subject, Avant Garde Book BT, is made by
Adobe, ITC or neither. By the wording on the Cufon generator if it's
made by Adobe then it's okay to use it, but if by ITC then no.

On Jabroo.com it has many different varieties of this font, which is
why I am confused. I'm aware that the site appears to be "slightly
illegal" in that there are fonts on there I know are paid fonts, so am
taking the results with a pinch of salt. I'm assuming all ITC fonts
have "ITC" at the beginning. Since the font I want to use doesn't I
assume it isn't made by ITC. However, who is it made by in that case
and is it okay for me to use it?

I hope someone can shed more light than Google could! Any help would
be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Alternatively, if there is a free font which looks very similar then
that would be just as good. I have had a look through dafont.com and
tried "What The Font?" and the closest I have found is BastardusSans.

Thanks!

Hi,

AvantGarde Bk is made by the Bitstream foundry. AvantGarde is from
both Adobe and ITC as far as I know, so you should check who made it
and under what EULA. There's also third AvantGarde under the name
Corel Avalon, which is rather old (predecessoror the AvantGarde Bk).

It belongs to the classification of Geometric Sans Serif fonts, so you
should find alternatives in that classification, i.e. Futura.
Identifont has a small list of 'similar' fonts:
http://www.identifont.com/find?similar=ITC+Avant+Garde+&q=Go

When you have some kind of Font Management software you should be able
to lookup the foundry from where it came. You can also try the Windows
File-Properties dialog and see the tab Details.

And here's something else:

Rubicon Font Library has a Geometric font called Wanted:

Maybe they have offer an attractive EULA for only 12 USD :-)

Cheers!
