I am having issues with my Rebel T2I. It keeps saying my card is write protected no matter what memory card I put in! I have tried 3 diffrent cards. Anyone else have this problem and know a solution?

That news doesn't bode well for your T2i. Take a careful look inside the memory card slot for foreign objects and bent pins. Hopefully, the problem is something as simple as a piece of lint. Otherwise, your camera may have died.

The write-protect tab on the edge of the memory card isn't anything special... it's just a simple piece of plastic that slides forward or backward and it's not in any way integrated into the electronics of the card itself.

Instead, SD card "slots" typically have a springy lever that rides along the edge of the card. It senses the position of the tab (the spring is able to spring out... or is forced to stay in... depending on the position of the tab.)

It's possible something in the card slot is jamming it. Shine a lot into the slot to see if you can notice any debris. If there is something stuck in the slot, be GENTLE with it -- but see if you can remove it.

I am experiencing a strange issue with my 5D MK IV. Basically, all SD Card (except 1) that I am inserting in the camera are returning an error message stating that the card is write-protected. To note that:

The make of the SD card has nothing to do with it. The so-called "switch" on the SD card is just a piece of plastic that slide back and forth; it doesn't do anything. There's supposed to be a sensor -- like a beam-of-light sensor -- in the camera which senses the "switch" position and acts accordingly. Sounds like your camera's sensor is faulty. 5DIV's idea of canned air might work; good luck. Otherwise, servicing.

Thanks a lot and will definitely try this out, but how can you explain the fact that only 1 SD-CARD is working, whereas all of the rest are not? If it has to do with the sensor, either it works every time or not, right?

Maybe the little bit of plastic is slightly larger, or misaligned. and sticking out on that card? Examine them and see. Since the "switch" really is a dumb piece of plastic, there must be some physical difference, and maybe you can see what that is.

Hello to all. First, let me mention that my forensic computer skills are average at best. Having said that, I think I should pass along something that happened to me, earlier today. It may help just a few of those that are experiencing this write-protected problem. First, a tad bit of background.

I am using SanDisk Micro SDXC memory cards in one of my MP3 players, and also in one of my drones. As in standard practice to some of you, and in order to either add MP3 files to my MP3 player or if I want to download video files from my drone, I use an adapter in order to size the micro card up in order to fit the slot in my desktop tower. I have 2 of these adapters.

On a whim, I removed the micro memory card from one adapter, and put it in the other. Bingo, I was able to add the MP3 music files with no problem. So, it seems that at least in my particular case, the adapter itself was causing the problem. It should go without saying that the offending adapter is now in File 13. Thank you for reading.

1.) At the time, I had 2 SanDisk Micro SDXC memory card adapters, that would have been originally included with my purchase of SanDisk Micro SDXC memory cards.
2.) On a particular day, I used one of the adapters, along with a SanDisk Micro memory card, and inserted it in the available slot in my desktop computer, in order to add some MP3 music/songs. Everything went find; songs downloaded correctly.
3.) A few days later, I repeated this process, but for some reason, my desktop would not allow the download, with a popup window informing me that the memory card was write protected. I removed and reinserted the micro memory card/adapter into the desktop slot several times, and I also removed and reinserted the micro memory card in the adapter several times. Each time afterwards, I got the same popup window, stating that the card was write protected.
4.) After researching this problem online, with no solutions that appeared to work for me, and on a whim, I removed the micro memory card from one of my adapters, and inserted it in the other adapter.
5.) Presto, the popup window did not appear, and I was able to download my music, just as I had been able to do a few days earlier. Obviously, I discarded the adapter that APPEARED to have caused the problem.

I will rightfully admit, I am not dealing with a USB related issue, but I did come across this post as I was trying to get a solution to my particular problem. So my friend, my question to you is; what is your problem with my response?

Hi, I had the same issue with an ssd, according to sandisk support , write protected mode is done by the storage firmware when it traces problem in the storage.
To save the user data , the drive is going to a locked mode.
Since SanDisk does not provide for most storage e.g sdcard ssd a firnware update or reconfigure tool you can say r.i.p to the storage.
Other option is to backup and do llf.

I have read many threads relate to this one, and tried all: Check physical lock switch on tape; Check driver Symantec apply to tape drive; Check overwrite period; Untick tape sequence on Catalog; Move tape to Scratch media set...

If you suspect an issue with the tape drive itself, review the event viewer's system logs for any hardware related events and/or consider running vendor diagnostics against the tape drive before going in for a replacement.

-All old tapes became write-protected (with red X symbol on pen of Media tape show on Storage), then i checked backup with 03 brand-new tapes, then it got fail with 02 tapes (same as old tapes), successful with 01 tape.

I wanted an easier way to interface with Google Drive. The first few weeks of RAI Drive, everything worked great. Now, when I go to move files " I get The disk is write protected." Does RAI Drive put a limitation on moving files until I pay a subscription ?

You may not have write access to the folder.
Please check if you have write access to the folder on the web, and if an error persists, please send the log file(C:\ProgramData\OpenBoxLab\RaiDrive\log) by e-mail(sup...@raidrive.com) and we will tell you again after checking.

One of my users is receiving an error message, "Drawing file is write protected", when trying to save a file that is stored on a network device. No one else has this file open and permissions for the user are set to Full. I have already made sure the entire folder and subfolders are NOT read only. I have also set the AutoCAD LT program to "Run as Administrator" as per one of your support documents which seemed to fix the issue at first, but has since returned. The user itself is also an administrator for their Windows profile. So far the workaround is to Save As the file under a different name and delete the old file and rename the newly created one to the old name. Obviously, this is not the greatest thing to have to do every single time and am looking for a more permanent solution. I've read through many different forums to no avail. Any help would be fantastic!

Thank you for the response, jayhar. Unfortunately, I have already checked the SYSTEM security permissions and there are no Deny boxes checked on any of the .dwg files. The user is on Windows 7 Pro. What information can I provide you to help assist?

As stated in my opening, SAVE AS works just fine, but when needing to Save the file again after closing and reopening it, it still prompts with a Write Protected error. I have checked the permissions and nothing is being denied.

Does this happen with only dwg files? I had something like this happen years ago and it was a server issue. The server was flagging the file type and locking it down. Because it was at the server level it didn't show as "read only" or anything like that and would let me save as another file.

Has there been any resolution to this? We are starting to run into this issue now as well. It is happening in Windows 7 Civil 3D 2018 as well as with Carlson software. Drawings are stored in a Windows 2008 R2 server.

Thank you for the input, the files are not actually write protected on the server. Other users can operate them normally. It is not looking like a server permission issue. We are working very hard with the IT team and drafting and engineering teams to get to the bottom of this. I am hearing that it could be an AutoCAD or even Windows profile issue. Has anyone had experience with these items being the cause?

I've started seeing an AccessViolationException being thrown in my application a several different spots. It never occured on my development pc, our test server. It also only manifested itself on 1 of our 2 production servers. Because it only seemed to happen on one of our production servers, I started looking at the installed .net framework versions on the servers.

I found that (for some strange reason), the production server that was having problems had 2.0 sp2, 3.0 sp2, and 3.5 sp1, while the other production server and the test server had 2.0 sp1.

My app only targets the 2.0 framework, decided to uninstall all the framework versions from the production server and install only 2.0 sp1. So far I have not been able to reproduce the problem. Very interesting.

Development pc: compact 2.0 sp2, compact 3.5, 2.0 sp2, 3.0 sp2, 3.5 sp1Test server: 2.0 sp1Production server1: 2.0 sp1Production server2: 2.0 sp2, 3.0 sp2, 3.5 sp1

Now, why I can't reproduce the problem on my development pc which has 2.0 sp2 on it, I can't figure out. I heard rumors that this access violation may happen on some software that utilizes remoting, which mine does, but the access violation never happends when remoting is actually occuring. I'm ok with using only 2.0 sp1 for now, but I'm really interested to know if anyone has had this issue, and if they found a workaround for newer versions of the frameowork.
