After a brief check on everyone's ships to make sure all pieces are connected legally (with illegal tiles removed as "damage"), it's time to hit whatever counts for road in this wacky galaxy. A deck of random challenges is shuffled and flipped over one card at a time, and players' ships will use whatever systems they have to survive the challanges ahead. Sometimes you find planets rich in cargo, and sometimes horrible predator aliens get aboard your ship and devour everything that isn't behind a self-defense turret or armed crew.
Galaxy Trucker is all about building an awesome spaceship and then boldly go where no one has gone before, to a galaxy far far away. Chances are your ship will break down, get hit by meteors and shot at during your travels, and it might not make it to the end (it being build with old sewer pipes and other junk).

Galaxy Trucker has a unique, light-hearted theme that is really well implemented. I love the concept of pulling together a ship out of rag tag parts and hauling freight across the galaxy. It also has plenty of simultaneous play which minimises down time and results in some nice tension to keep things interesting. Although it can be a little hard to learn at first, it is a blast and has plenty of amusing moments.
You might remember the complaint about not having themed missions to add credibility (and variance) to your galaxy trucking? The 16 Missions in the box are here to take care of it. Each of them describes the new set up of the game, including some or all of the additional components of the box. Alien Design gives some quirky prerequisites on how to build your truck and triples the reward for the best-looking ship at the end of a round. Easy Peasy replaces all the unknown cards of the mission with Supercards, making for a very random, and very hard, game. Not only the rewards for the best-looking ship but also the rewards for finishing are doubled. Radioactive Isotopes adds the, well, radioactive isotopes, as if your current cargo was not dangerous enough. The rules, once again, change a bit, and so on and so forth. Each mission states what type of ships it can or can't be used with, or whether additional expansions are required to accommodate particular types of ships.
There are an assortment of different types of components that provide different benefits. Cabins allow you to have a bigger crew. Engines make you go faster. Cannons help you defend yourself from meteors or who knows what else awaits you. Shield generators deflect smaller debris and enemy cannons. Some items require batteries so, of course, there are battery components. And naturally, cargo holds do as the name implies, hold goods. We are galaxy truckers so read into that what you will with respect to the necessity of carrying cargo.
