One of the advantages of using an Android phone for navigation is that it potentially combines communication and navigation.  The feature I would like to have is the automated capability to send a txt msg to notify a loved one that I have reached a waypoint along the way.  I would like to have the action of sending the txt message triggered by passing through a designated waypoint (action on the cuesheet).  This would be similar to an on-line tracker but but much less data intensive since it only communicates at specific points.  Is this possible?

I was thinking of an automated update to an ETA ala Waze but your way might be cool too.

Ultimately, this feature could be useful for long distance cycling events, like randonnee, so that organizers can verify their riders progress.  It's a long shot that tracking like this would ever be accepted as "proof of passage" but at least organizers would have the option ;)
