Hello,

I have been waiting for Cuesheet to become available for the iPhone since I recently heard about it on the RideWithGPS support forum. A posting was made there that stated that the Android version of the app provides turn by turn directions utilizing the GPS in the phone. This is the key feature that I am looking for that is missing on all other similar iPhone apps (e.g. MapMyRide, Strava, etc.). I was thrilled when I saw your CueSheet app appear on Apple's App store for the iPhone. The problem is that unless I am missing something, this app only reads the RidWithGPS account for the user and loads a cuesheet, the same as printing out a cuesheet from the website and does not do any turn by turn directions.

Would you please confirm if this is true, and if it is, would you please let me know if you are planning to either improve the features of this app, or create a new app, that will implement true turn by turn navigation based on predefined routes in RideWithGPS? Ideally, this would include waking the screen when a turn is approaching, audibly and/or visually notifying me that a turn was coming up, and getting me back on a course if I miss a turn.

I am a road cyclist and given the speed that I ride and the desire to not have to take my hands off the handlebars to push buttons on a phone mid-ride, you can appreciate why your plans for an iPhone version of your app with these features is so attractive. I look forward to your response. Thanks for listening!!  --Paul

Thanks for the message. You are correct. The current iPhone version is very basic and just provides a convenient way to access your cue sheets without having to print them out and tape them to your handlebars. You have to tape you iPhone to the handlebars instead ;).  The good news is that I have recently submitted an enhancement to Apple's app store. It is an incremental improvement that will show you your rides, rides nearby (from anyone or just you) and the map. It will work with iOS 7. The next iteration should have turn-by-turn directions.

Unfortunately, CueSheet doesn't bring in enough revenue to make it my full-time job so it takes a little longer to get updates out than I'd like.

Hi. I "second the motion" for the development of an iPhone version of your Android app that provides turn-by-turn directions based on a route mapped on RideWithGPS.

There currently is NO iPhone app that will provide GPS guidance for a cyclist.

I would definitely pay a reasonable price for such an app. I have been using a Garmin Edge 800 for a long time, but, on a long ride, it is likely to begin to fail in its job. Sometimes it gets confused when a route crosses itself, and sometimes I think there may just be too many data points for it to handle and it develops a hiccup at, say, mile 130 of a 200 mile ride, and I have to turn off the "course" and restart it for the directions to start working again.

I'm already keeping my iPhone charged up during the ride. If I could rely on the iPhone for the directions, I could get rid of the Garmin and only have the one electronic device to keep charged up.

Btw, there is no need to tape the iPhone to the handlebar. lol There are awesome products to take care of that, such as:

Thanks for the input. CueSheet GPS turn by turn directions on the iPhone is my next project. Hopefully I'll be ready to begin BETA testing that in the spring. Have you tried the latest iPhone version with the map? Sorry no GPS yet, but I thought it would be a marginal improvement to show I'm working on it and get some feedback that I could incorporate into the next version.

It looks promising but crashes for me as soon as I select a route to display. Signs in to my RWGPS account, displays my routes but crashes once I select one. Occurs on both iPhone 4) & iPad mini. Looking forward to developments, thanks for your efforts to date.

Sorry you are having this problem. Thanks for letting me know about it. Are you getting the latest version with the new Icon? Are you able to see select a "ride nearby" if you change the filter? Are you using the Facebook login when you log into RWGPS via. the web? If so did you try: http://blog.ridewithgps.com/blog/2013/04/19/Email-Password-Login/

What is your Ride With GPS Username? Feel free to reply directly with that.
Thanks,
Geoff

Thanks for ideas

  1. I login to RwGPS via username / password
  2. I installed from appstore yesterday so assume it is latest version
  3. I tried a few everyone/near me but all displayed the "no course available..." message on loading so assume they did not have cue entries either

Yesterday I was only trying those routes that I knew had cuesheets ie the ones I mapped on the site rather than importing a GPX.

If I select a route that does not have cuesheet it does load in the Cuesheet app and displays the "no course available..." message. It does show a "map" but it is zoomed in and always is centred on some bit of the Southern Ocean off Antarctica, a long way from where I am (Sydney, Australia). If I pinch in and in and in and finally get a map (rather than blue ocean) and move to the location of the route and zoom in it does not display any route. If I press the "center" button the map goes back to a much zoomed view of Antarctica.

If I select any route that has cuesheet entries it displays the "loading.." message for a few seconds and crashes back to the OS home screen. Thinking it might be a size issue as most of the routes are 200km Audax rides I built a small route with just 7 cuesheet entries but this crashes as well.

I assume app is trying to pickup the TCX file.

This is a route (without cuesheet entries) that loads but displays not route on the map

http://ridewithgps.com/trips/2066452?privacy_code=yZqBbQFSz1KX7H6o

This is a route with 7 cuesheet entries that crashes

http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3754349?privacy_code=qB8FDk71hd6IpsZ3

Hope these help. The app looks ideal for Audax riding and replacement for paper cuesheets and also backup for those who have Garmins etc that often seem to have issues.

thanks

I have confirmed that this is happening. I have been able to get it to crash on a few other rides as well. I'll work on getting a fix out as soon as possible.

I have the iPhone version 1.2.4

The login to RWGPS (password) works fine

But regardless of the filter setting it always shows Everyone's rides and won't show mine, the everywhere/ nearby filter works but only for everyone

Thanks for reporting the problem. Is is allowing you to change the setting on the filter screen? Or have you changed the settings on the filter screen but it's still showing everyone's rides?

I can change the filter and save and while the everywhere / nearby filter appears to take effect the just me filter does not. When I view with the nearby / just me filter it does show some of my rides mixed up with lots of other nearby ones

In a post above a RWGPS person says the server query is "fixed" but I am still unable to filter to just me.

Perhaps another change has been implemented at RWGPS as the Just Me filter is now working again.

The distances still are multiplied by 10 ie ride of 100km displays as 1,000 and all the segment distances / distance to next turn are similarly offset by a decimal place (too much), makes for daunting rides

Just wanted to let you know that I have submitted the fix for proper metric distances to the app store. Thanks for pointing that out.

I updated version 1.2.5 today and my routes will not now display in this app.  They were visible in the previous version but the mileage was out, in my case not by multiples of ten i.e. a 86 mile ride was displayed as 706 miles.  This is a good app with lots of potential, thank for all your hard work.

Steve. I'm looking into this now. It seems the RWGPS folks made the max limit of rides to list 100. CueSheet requests 300 at a time. It's just text in the list, not much data, so I don't know why they made the limit so low. I'm working with them to see if they will raise it. If not it'll have to be changed in the app, then go through the slow ios approval process.

Until then, I hope you can make use of the "rides nearby" to access your ride before you start off.

Best,
Geoff

Steve,

Just in time for the weather to get nice the guys at RideWithGPS.com modified the API for me so that my app would work again. Please let me know if CueSheet 1.2.5 is working for you now.

Thanks!
Geoff

I just found your app today and it is just what I have been looking for to share routes with my riding group.
Likewise created a new account with ridewithGPS and uploaded to them a route - also a great feature.

Easily linked from CueSheet to my RidewithGPS, but alas, no go.  Using the 'Just Me" and Everywhere, I am not finding my 1 route in RideWithGPS.com

Not sure if others are finding this too, but that was my experience today.
Like others have mentioned, this is an area that is lacking notably and I'm sure that many would pay/support an app that reliably accomplishes this goal

Sorry it's so slow in getting this done. Lots of other projects. Also sorry you had a problem seeing your route. What route was missing?

Thanks,
Geoff
