I thought I posted a similar question the other day, but I must not have hit post.

Does anyone have any feel for how long the battery on a galaxy s3 would last using the pro version of this with voice prompts, and the screen off?  The route I am following should be fairly well marked, and I just would like a little "heads up" on an upcoming turn,  so my plan would be to keep my phone in my jersey.  All I really need is a reminder to start looking for road markings.

I realize it's hard to estimate battery life time,  so I am looking for some feed back from someone who uses this on an s3 really.

Thanks - John

Screen off should save considerable battery, however the GPS is a bit of a power hog and it needs to stay on for navigation. The wifi is used by the Android location services to supplement the GPS signal with a list of known hotspot locations. However if you have a strong GPS it probably isn't necessary to have on. I use an extended battery in my S4 but keep the screen on most of the time for testing. With the extended battery and screen on it uses about 50% of a fully charged battery on a 30-40 mile ride. Your milage may vary.

Hi John,

I use an s3, with a normal battery (not extended) and keep the screen on and GPS on (required for nav) with the Pro version of Cuesheet and it lasts for 2 hours. I average 11-12 mph.

I carry an extra battery with me, in case I go on a longer ride. That's a benefit to android phones-- switching out the batteries. I don't use an extended battery on my ride because it forces the phone to be thicker and then it won't fit on my handlebar mount (Rokform case & mount).

Hey John,

I have an S3 and just installed the 4 gig micro SD card  ($15 from DrugMart) tonight so that the maps are on the phone.  I suspect this will save a additional power since it won't have to be constantly fetching map data from Google while riding.  I'll be trying it tomorrow and will post an evaluation.  However, without the micro sd card, I've found that putting the S3 in power saving mode actually saves quite a bit of juice and Cue Sheets even seems to run better.  I put the phone in my right rear jersey pocket and run a single ear bud underneath my jersey, up to my right ear which leaves my other ear to listen for traffic.  I would imagine the ear bud requires less power than the speaker as well.  Using power saving mode, the ear bud and no micro sd card, I still had 43% battery after a 90 mile ride last week (6 hrs trip time).  I have FB, Outlook, Instagram and Life360 running concurrently.  I've set Life360 to update my location every 15 minutes.  Cue Sheets is showing the map, but I turn off the display since I'm using the verbal cues via the ear bud.

Hope this helps.
