Ihave a simple Report Builder query file that runs a generic Traffic Source report by week for each of the three site I report on. I'm using the most recent version of Report Builder in Excel 2013. Last week, everything ran fine. Go to refresh my queries this morning and as soon as I try to select any of the queries (or select all) in the window, the "Please Exit the Excel Cell with focus before using this feature." error message pops up repeatedly. I don't do any cell manipulation on this file to begin with (literally just open, refresh, save, exit once a week) so I'm not sure why this error is popping up.

so, there seems to be a workaround. Close your existing sheet, and open a new one. Go to Add-ins and connect t report builder from there. Once connected, no need to create a new request. Just close this one, and open your existing xls with report builder connection. This should now work!

If you are in edit mode in an Excel cell and click one of the report builder icons, this error message appears. Edit mode in an Excel cell means that the cell is selected and the cursor appears inside the cell. You are also in edit mode in an Excel cell when you type directly into the Formula bar or into the Name Box at the top of Excel.

That's the problem though. I'm not in edit mode. I've also since found out that this is happening to everyone in my department which would point to a Report Builder problem rather than a user one. That makes me more curious as to whether it's happening to people outside of my company as well.

(Sorry, in my first reply here I had misread your note. I see you're asking about cf Report builder rather than CFBuilder--the editor. I've removed what I'd written and will offer a new reply about report builder, in case you got emailed my first mistaken reply.)

Myself and a colleauge had a nice discussion with Mark Takata and Charvi Dhoot about the possibility of a re-vamped CF Report Builder in the future. I've been a frequent "squeeky-wheel" on the topic, as our organization has a rather significant investment in *.cfr documents - we have hundreds upon hundreds of report builder documents in use every day, including some very much vital to our clients. (checks, w-2s, 1099's, 1095's, on and on). I was rather tickled to know that there's at least some interest in Adobe re-investing in the report builder. We are on Cold Fusion 2021 at present - the last update to Report Builder was for CF 10, and that was just updating the splash screen to say CF 9, otherwise it's the same as it's been since CF8.

You can either manually code these parameters into your macro, or you can utilize input boxes to gather this information when the macro is run. The latter is a more complicated approach, so I will show how this could be done.

In this example, I capture the interval value as a number (i.e. Type:=1) so I can perform error checking, but you can choose to capture this value as a simple text value (Type:=2) if that works better for you. Lastly, we can ask the user to input the initial time for the auto-refresh process to start. This is particularly useful for timing your requests to refresh on specific marks, such as at the beginning of every hour.

Note that the format of the timestamp in this input (hhss) could also be applied when asking for the interval between refreshes. Now that I have all the information I need, I first extract the value of the selected cell range and translate the initial start time into a TimeValue object:

Now, using the range and interval values stored in the global variables you created earlier, invoke the refresh command and set up the application to recursively call this same function again at the next appropriate time:

As a reminder, this example illustrates specifying a minute-based interval, but this last piece essentially completes the work for an auto-refreshing workbook. As long as the application stays open, this macro will continuously run in the background until the file is closed.

Hopefully, this article helps you understand some potentially useful applications of real-time data and macros in conjunction with report builder. Feel free to reach out to me or our consulting team to explore how you can best leverage report builder in your workflows.

If rRange Is Nothing Then errorMsg = errorMsg & "Invalid range selected. " GoTo ender: Else range = rRange.Address 'Set the next refresh time based on interval specified fTime = TimeValue(fstrTime) Application.OnTime fTime, "performRefresh" End If Exit Sub

' Once the Addin has been retrieved, invoke the RefreshRequestsInCellsRange() API command ' The cell range specified below points to the captured range from the autoRefresh() macro. ' The range expression is compatibile with all supported Excel Range expressions success = automationObject.RefreshRequestsInCellsRange(range)

Been using report builder fine for years, opened excel one day and report builder add-in tab is missing. Try usual approach of going options > add-ins and checking if it is disabled, but it says its active, however its definitely not loading at start up. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling RB to no avail.

Additionally, can you double check and make sure that it's the 32-bit version of Office, and not 64-bit? You could also try downloading and installing the other bit version of Report Builder from inside the Analytics UI.

this just happened for me too. ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the add-in, excel, all of office -- i cannot get report builder to resurface even though it is both installed and selected as excel add-in

a few weeks ago I was at an Omniture Training. The trainer was showing us the features of the report builder. It is to 98% the same like the Excel-Plugin. The Excel-Plugin was for free. Why do I need to pay for the Report Builder? Interesting business model: Change the name of a product and make it cost something...

the other idea says that it is free in premium contracts. Our keyaccount says we don't have a license although we renewed our contract of more than 5 bn servercalls a year for further three years. Why did nobody tell us about the new contract options??? An I do not agree that Report Builder is so much different to the Excel-Client. Maybe its more stable but the major functionality is the same.

What I think is: Omniture removed the Excel-Client so we don't have this functionality anymore. Our prices have not been reduced. Now you tell me that we have to pay more to get most of the Excel-Clients functionality back??? What kind of logic is that?

My apologies if the referenced idea exchange submission was not clear. Unlimited ReportBuilder licenses are included in both the Adobe Analytics Standard and Premium contracts that were made available toward the beginning of this year and evangelized at Summit. If you renewed your contact before these new licensing options were finalized, then they may not have arisen in your contact renewal discussions.

I am sorry if you do not perceive the many new features we bring to the table via ReportBuilder to be of significant value or difference from Excel Client. We and many customers feel the segmentation, breakdown, filtering, and contextual customization ReportBuilder offers far exceeds Excel Client's current capabilities. Because we offered two Excel-based solutions, we have been charging for ReportBuilder to support it's initial development and additional services it provides, but as we move to a single Excel solution, we have provided a transition path to make such an integration free.

Is there anyone facing issues when trying to log in to Report Builder? This seems to be a recent problem as I was using it just fine last week by logging in via Experience Cloud. Yesterday however I got redirected to my company's auth system. After trying to log in through that I get a message saying 'Your user does not have access to any companies.' which cannot be correct as I can see my account has access to different enterprise accounts (both my company which is an Adobe partner or the client one).

Hi @ioanalytics ,

I have just tried logging in to Report Builder & I was able to do so successfully. However, as you mentioned that you are getting the message that you don't have access. So, I will request you to check the below-mentioned points.

1. Make sure you are using the correct identity type. For example, if your account is set up with the Enterprise ID or Federated ID then select the option as "Company or School Account" & if your account is set up using Adobe ID then choose the option as "Personal Account" while trying to log in.

2. Try installing the new version of Adobe Report builder by navigating to Analytics > Tools > Report Builder.

3. Also, you can check whether the issue is happening when you are connected to VPN or proxy network or with the home network as well.

If the above steps didn't resolve the issue then my suggestion will be to report this issue to the Client Care team for further investigation.
