Hi! Recently my computer had to be fixed by formtting its system. After doing so all my file were kept (because I was working on a project) but obviously my the aplications were deleted. Afterwards I installed AutoCAD 2016 (student trial for 3 years) with everyting I needed, AutoCAD 2016 itself and AutoDesk... but, when I tried to apply any materials it told that some file were corupted and had to be fixed. Obviously as you can tell I am not a 100% expert on AutoCAD's "missing files and what to do next" So I googled it and I came up with this (AutoDesk) page which mentioned: How to uninstall and reinstall Autodesk Material Library. I managed to unisntall the files and only install the medium materials library, but not the base material library or the missing libraries I require. And I can't fine any suggestions on how to "manually install" the libraries or use the (InstallationMedia)\Content\ADSKMaterials\2016\ILB\BaseImageLibrary2016.msi, which doesn't appear on that directory (only the "Material Library 2016" but thats it.

This construction Material Library can be used in most EU countries. The library includes manufacturer specific data about the materials like the material's density, thermal conductivity, and thickness. As such it is easier to include a specific material with real parameters onto a wall component and get an appropriate heat transfer coefficient (U value) directly. Change a material or thickness and this value changes accordingly. Additional information that is added into the material library is the material's thickness selection that helps to filter out the most appropriate combination. All material information is based on manufacturer datasheets, including a link (URL) from where additional information can be found. The library is available in English and Estonian. Although the library reach is the same in both cases, the descriptions are different (English or Estonian).

The easiest way to do it if you separate the objects by layer. You can attach materials to each layer, without having to attach it to each object. Expand the materials panel and click attach by layer.

Applying it is easy. There are several ways to do it. You can drag and drop the material from material browser to your object. But the more convenient way to me is select the object first, then choose material that I want from material browser. Right click, and choose assign to selection.

Hi Edwin,
I'm having trouble finding anyone who can help me with my problem. I have a student version of AutoCAD 2011. When I render, I can see the materials in the materials browser. However, when I try to attach them by layer, the images of the materials disappear. I only see black boxes. I also get a completely black image when it renders. There is no image at all even though I have lights and cameras on and in place. I read online that I might need to reinstall the materials library. I followed the instructions exactly and reinstalled it, all three sections. Still, I'm getting the same results when I try to render. Any suggestions at all? Thanks for your help.

Then place a border surrounding the part reference. Each border must contain one part reference only. Create a BOM for each border, and edit the assembly properties. Here you can assign the name you want to appear in your raw material selection lists later on.

You can select the materials from the Table Name drop down list. The names correspond with the BOM names in your raw materials library drawing. Make sure to update your BOM after each insert of a part reference with raw materials, to keep the item number of the raw material adjacent to the part itself.

Using a simple library drawing you can ensure consistent data in your bill of materials, and allow quick and easy adding of raw material data. This means also making it available to downstream users through Productstream, as it will also capture this information!

I have ACA 2010, i can't see my materials library. in my school we have aca 2010 and i see the materials library when i open a drawing. like when i draw a wall, i can see the option of it having brink or any other matterial but in my aca 2010 i dont see that option.

When you installed Autocad, did you include the materials library? You have to specify that you want to install the materials, otherwise they will be excluded from the installation. Just pop in your installation disk and install the materials library.

When you first open the Materials Editor, there is one material slot available. That is your default material. Any texture you load into that material slot will now be your default material for all objects in the scene. You should always leave that first slot empty. Always create a new material.

Select the material you want to apply and then hold down the Ctrl key and click on the wall face that you want to apply the material to. Holding the Ctrl key will apply the material only to the face you select.

You know how to apply a material to your model, right? By clicking the button in the material editor and then clicking on your model. Well, just hold the Ctrl key while clicking on the model and the material will only apply to the face you click on.

A library of over 400 materials and textures is included with the product. The materials are available on tool palettes after they are installed and are displayed on the palettes with a checkered underlay.

A typical installation installs less than 100 materials on the Materials tool palettes. An additional 300 or more materials are available by optionally installing the Materials library. The library can be accessed through the Configuration button on Add/Remove features in the installer. By default, all of the Materials tool palettes are installed in the Tool Palettes File Locations path specified on the Files tab of the Options dialog box. (See Texture Maps Search Path on the Files tab for the location of texture maps.)

You can apply materials to objects from the individual tool palettes in the Tool Palettes window. You can also drag materials from the individual tool palettes to the Materials window swatch display. You can make changes to materials in the Materials window.

By clicking the Tool Palettes window title bar and clicking New Palette, you can create and name a new palette. The palette is customizable. You can add material tools by copying and pasting from other material palettes. The controls for doing so are on the Tool Palettes window shortcut menu.

I have 2 questions.1. Can I import a iam file (inventor file) into Rhino inklusiv all the materials allready given.? 2. Can I import the whole autodesk material library into Rhino and give the different layers the autodesk material I want.

Rhino and Inventor do not use the same rendering engine so they do not share a common material definition. I would be surprised if anything about rendering material assignments survived the STEP file transfer.

This program will install a series of folders containing our material library in a directory you specify. If you are installing for a school or a Work Group of people, be sure to pick a folder that all your users, even lower level users, can access.

After setting up these folders, this installer will create a shortcut to the material folders on your Windows Desktop. You can browser for the materials. When you browse for the material files, change the file View to thumbnail, so you can preview the material.

We also continue to add material libraries you can add in addition to the complete library above. To manually install a material library, download the ZIP file and unzip into the directory of your choice. See more instructions here:

The library includes the SSAB steels and additional standard steels and metals for the Autodesk Inventor software. Autodesk Inventor is a professional tool for 3D CAD mechanical design, FEA simulation, visualization and documentation.

The yield strength as Rp0.2 and tensile strength as Rm are either typical strength levels or guaranteed minimum values according to the data sheet, as stated in the material data file.
The data given in the English version of the product data sheets shall prevail in case of discrepancy.

At the bottom of the dialog are three icons. The first two are drop-down icons to create and open libraries and create and duplicate materials. To create a new library, from the first one, click the drop-down and then choose: Create New Library.

Browse to a location where you want to store the new library and give it a name. It will now appear on the list. You can begin placing materials in this library, or optionally you can right-click to create categories. If you plan to add many materials to the library, categories can help keep it organized.

To add materials to it, just drag and drop from the Project Materials pane directly above. You can drag directly onto the library folder, or into any of the categories if you created them. Selecting the library will display all contained materials and selecting a category will show only the materials within that category.

While you are working on the library, it will display a small pencil icon next to it. This indicates that it is currently locked while you edit. To finish, you need to release the library. Do this by right-clicking on the library and then choose: Release Library.

However updating an existing material can be a challenge. Copying an item to a new empty project file and then using Transfer Project Standards does seem to work for me most of the time. Usually I get the Duplicate Types dialog box where I select Overwrite and the material updates. This is good. But in my current file this dialog does not appear and the material is not updated. Do you know why this might be the case please?

I want to thank you for the informative Revit videos. We have recently configuard a Revit template for our architectural studio. This template has some custom settings for area plan and area schedules. But as soon as we added these custom setting, it is taking enormas time to load materials in this template. We are using Revit 2019
Do you have any suggestions for what could be the problem ?
