Conference in Memory of the 1911 Revolution at Harvard University
The Xinhai Revolution in 1911 put an end to the two thousand years of
imperial rule and marked the beginning of a modern China. In the last
one hundred years since 1911, China in the pursuit of a Republic has
witnessed numerous societal and political changes, mixed with reforms
and revolutions, and with advancements and setbacks. Commemorating the
100th anniversary of this historical event, a conference in memory of
the 1911 Revolution will be held at CGIS south Tsai Auditorium on
October 29th-30th, 2011. The closing ceremony will take place at the
prestigious Harvard University Memorial Church on Sunday afternoon,
October 30th. Distinguished scholars from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong
Kong and the United States will be speaking at the conference,
covering the social, cultural and political aspects of the Xinhai
Revolution. With the advantage of a hundred years of hindsight, we
will take the opportunity to review the developments and lessons
learnt between then and now, and to better understand the causes,
consequences and implications of the 1911 Revolution.
This conference is organized by Harvard GSAS China Study Group and
