Paul, Is Interstate 40 open all the way to Tennessee now? I see on my map that it is fine, but I would rather have a human tell me things. Margo

Yes, but just one lane in each direction, so it’s very sensitive to any accident or slowdown. Be sure to check your maps app before going. The alternative route, which we always take, is US 70 through Hot Springs to Newport.
