Dear Cubs,

Below are 3 texts to me from Dave McComas. He asked me to share with the group. Dave has been one of my best friends since Training. He was my big brother at Lambda Chi while we were at Memphis State. When one of us hurts we all do.

“This was a rough weekend for me.

My Brother, Charles who lives in CA near his Daughter, Anne & family went to pick up a Birthday Cake with Nephew, Bert. He got out of the car to go get it, tripped over the curb & hit his head on the sidewalk. It was a direct hit, no chance to shield the blow. Took him to the Emergency Room, but he never regained consciousness.

He was 88, still sharp & went for daily long walks. Last thing we could have ever imagined happening! I am still realizing that this freak accident happened.

Life can change overnight.”

“I just talked with Selena, my brother’s oldest daughter who was in L.A. visiting with him. She eased mine & Ashlea’s minds. She told us his health at 88 was on a downward slope & he was about to be hospitalized for brain issues.

She said maybe the fall was a plan from above…so sweet of her to share that with me!”

“I heard from his daughter, Selena, who was there in L.A. when it happened. She said his health at 88 was going down significantly. Maybe it was God’s plan to keep him from suffering a slow and very sad passing. He has been a walker & exerciser his whole life. He was quite a Brother and achiever. From Harvard on to being on the team that developed the first computer. It was housed in a 3story tall glass air conditioned building on the Harvard campus. He snuck me in that building & gave me a first hand view & lesson. They made a movie about it, but it was jazzed up a lot by the movie makers!”

Mike,

Thanks for sharing David’s texts about his brother.

Seems like falling is a real danger for our age group.  Remember Gene’s older brother Bobby suffered a fatal fall as well as Gene.

I am sorry for the loss of your beloved older brother, David.

Many prayers for you , Dave, your family, your brother’s family, and friends. God’s timing is perfect and we learn many lessons of dealing with the sudden or prolonged process of the step over in time, from finite to infinite. Precious pictures help heal with many memories of life. “Imagine Heaven” by John Burke helped me through my first dark winter time without Don this year. Take care to celebrate, cherish, and grieve your loss the best way for you.  Sincerely,  Karen
