Isn't Tennessee a red state?

Very red.  But Memphis is now considered one of the most dangerous cities in the US.

Raymond, would Memphians welcome the extra security?

Memphis is no more dangerous than any other large poor city. Everybody has stories. But it is perfectly safe till it happens to you.

In 80 years, I have not had any problems; but I know some people that have had problems.

We are downtown at least twice a week for church things - no probs.

I, also, know people that would not go downtown on a bet; they are sure they would be shot.

Raymond,  thanks for the info.  Very interesting to get a report from a resident.

Today the Washington Post had an analysis of the arrests made since the National Guard troops came to Washington DC. The big drop off in crime has been for car jacking, which had been especially bad in Washington. They also got about 30% more illegal guns during the period. Most of the arrests have been in the high crime areas, so some locals are happy about it. Others worry about racial profiling. The courts have been very busy, and not everyone has been sentenced.
