Hi Jean,

Thanks for the birthday greeting.  I am so glad that you like Athens.

This morning I sent out a thank you email to everyone but it may not have been received.  Below I will repeat it to make sure that everyone in the group will see it.

To all:

Many thanks for remembering me on my birthday.  I do so look forward to hearing about you and your families and am intrigued by the bits and pieces of Memphis history that transport me to another time.

I am still enjoying island life here off the coast of Georgia.  Living tends to be slow and easy when not punctuated by an occasional hurricane or other show of force from Mother Nature.

For excitement I travel as often as I can these days.  Last May I spent two weeks in Italy.  The tour included after-hours visits to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and the Sistine Chapel in Rome.  As you may remember, my father was the head of the art department at the U. of M.  He would have been absolutely delighted to have had this experience.

In October I am booked on a Douro river cruise in Portugal that ends in Spain.  After a brief stop in Salamanca, the tour concludes in Madrid.  I plan to stay several extra days to visit the Prado, eat at my favorite restaurant, El Botin, and shop at Corte Ingles.
