Greetings!
What a great time we had last night kicking off our new Scout year! Thank you to everyone who came. The boys had a lot of fun in their dens! And while what we had to do in our "All Parents Meeting" may not have been as much fun, paperwork and all, it was a very productive time as we took applications from 30 new Scouts!! Welcome to the Pack!!!!
As I mentioned during last night's meeting, please bear with us (no pun intended) as we work to get everyone's information entered and updated in our system. Particularly for our new families, there is a process we have to go through getting all of your boys officially registered with the BSA and our local Council, which process then leads to, among other things, us getting you set up with a user name and password in our cubpack14.com web site. This process will likely take a week or two. In the meantime, I will continue to keep everyone updated by e-mail as before.
Regarding the paperwork for registering all the boys for this new Scout year, while many of you had much of what is needed ready to go last night, a number of other families still need to get us your paperwork (you know who you are, and we do, too! ;-) For your convenience, I have attached again here the application (to be completed for each new or transferring Scout, even if you have an older boy already in our Pack), the health form, which the BSA requires every year along with a current copy of your insurance card, front and back, and the talent survey just so we can get a sense for the special skills and knowledge that some of our parents have that could be a benefit to the Pack. For new and returning Scouts, the health form is critical, so please be sure to bring it to the next meeting if you have not yet provided one within the last 12 months (and it is really best to have one on file contemperaneous with the start of the new Scout year just so you are covered for the whole year and we don't have to come looking for you for this form again mid-year). I encourage everyone to use the fillable "parts_ab" pdf attached so you don't have to retype or redo this form every year.
And speaking of the next meeting and our upcoming events, I have also attached for your convenience a copy of our calendar for the year that was distributed last night. Please note that our next meeting is this Monday night, September 17th, for all our Scouts except Tigers (1st graders), who meet generally every other week and so will rejoin us on September 24th. For our new families, we will gather each Monday night in the lobby of Christ Community Church at the main entrance closest to Hillsboro Road at 7:00 p.m. We will have our opening ceremony at that time, and then after a few "inter-Pack communications" (i.e., announcements - we just can't say that word - you'll see why soon :-), the boys will break off into their dens. Again, we encourage at least one parent to accompany their boy to his meeting if possible, but you must at least remain on campus per BSA policy.
As was also mentioned last night, our Cub and Family Campout is coming up October 5th-7th at Boxwell Scout Reservation, about an hour east of Nashville. This is an amazing facility and is sure to be a fun weekend, so mark your calendars and make plans to come! Later today I will be separately forwarding an e-mail from our Outdoor Acitvity Director, Brian Reed, with more details. As for registration, we have asked that that be completed by October 1st, so for our new Scouts, we should have you set up in the cubpack14.com website long before so that you can take care of that on-line.
The Monday after our Cub and Family Campout, October 8th, will be a special meeting with our Pack 14 Bonfire and Awards Ceremony - this is when all of our new Scouts who will by then have completed their Bobcat requirements will be "ceremoniously" inducted into the Pack - I note specifically that this is for the whole Pack, particularly our new Tiger Cubs. Our Bonfire is always a great night of fun, so please mark your calendars and plan on coming as a whole family.
There will be much more to come in the days ahead, but this should do it for now. Again, welcome to another year of Scouting! This is going to be awesome!!!
Yours in Scouting,
Jeromye Sartain
