OK, I'm trying to flash the NAND for the first time and am having some trouble. Looks like I'm not the only one so hopefully this can be a short thread with a quick response to help others.

Here's what I have:
  • Host machine is running Win7 x64
  • Oracle VirtualBox is running a VM, based on the instructions from here
  • Buildroot is cloned and compiled following instructions from here
When I get to the point where I'm to run LiveSuit I ran the following command:

sudo ~/Bin/LiveSuit/LiveSuit.sh

LiveSuit runs and it looks like it's version V3.01

Now for the confusion. Ignoring running the VM and trying to flash the NAND if I plug in the Cubieboard to my Win7 x64 machine using the USB cable the red LED and green LED come on . In Device Manager I find an entry under "Other devices" labeled "Android" with a yellow exclamation warning because device drivers were not installed. Did I miss finding where I'm supposed to find these drivers?

We'll start with this before I ask about the next steps because I think I need the device to show up properly in Windows before I can "capture" it inside the VM.

After going through similar issues, I gave up on trying livesuite with windows. I ended up using a USB stick running Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit version and the livesuit instructions from here http://linux-sunxi.org/LiveSuit worked like a charm.

Did you have to follow the notes at the end of that page about compiling the driver? I wonder since I'm trying to do development in a VM if I need to get the windows version of Livesuit for the driver?

Well, if you are doing a cross-platform compile in Ubuntu 64, you can continue with a compile of LiveSuit in Ubuntu 64 and have the image loaded without ever going to Windows7.

In theory ... you could shift the image from to a LiveSuit loader in Windows 7 but there are always some hazards of some tweaks to the software not done exactly the same in one or the other.  In other words there may be subtle differences in the Windows LiveSuit and the Linux LiveSuit. It is best to just do the whole process in one OS to avoid mysterious compatiblity snags.

I have a 64bit machine and loaded Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on a USB hard disk. It boot from the USB port, avoid everything installed in the computer's resisdent hard disk.  And I have successfully created and loaded the Cubieboard.

Allwinner A10 site has an explanation for how to do this.  I have posted what I noticed to be a few little odd bumps in the road in another thread this forum.  I don't have Windows7 64bit and didn't want to buy it.

Is your dkms package installed on your linux box? (dynamic kernel module support)

You can do to check if dkms is installed:

 dpkg -s dkms

To install dkms do this:
sudo apt-get install dkms
That is required to make the driver run. You actually need to run "sudo" when you install LiveSuit.run also, then it should work in linux.

I have done it many times and works.
