Hello,

We’re a user operating CubeX and are content with it.
But today we’ve got a problem that LCD isn’t displayed.
To be accurate, the back light works, but the image and text are not displayed.

So we’ve checked the touch screen cable with a circuit tester after disconnecting the cable.
But the cable was okay, and then we couldn’t do anything anymore.
We just guess that the cause is whether a main board or a touch screen.
But it might be correct.

So we think that you have an appropriate resolution about it.
Could you replay?

Hello,
There should be two red LEDs be on the main controller board when the CubeX is powered on.
If the red LED on the main controller board next to the LCD cable connector is not lid up (with the CubeX powered up) and the other LED is on, then it is most likely a main controller board issue.

HI
just to check?   When you power up the machine the red led on the touch screen lights up. OK.   you push the button and the screen come to life but there is not image just back light?.

Please try this . turn off the the machine completely. Unplug it for 10 seconds. Hold the button down on the touch screen. While holding the button down at the same time plug it back in.
IT should go into boot loader mode. Tell us what happens.  This is the hard wire reboot fail safe just in case you loose the software.

Hello,

Thank you for your rapid answer and kind advice.

We've tried to enter boot loader mode as you said, and then the LCD was displayed.: CUBEX FIRMWARE LOADER V1.

What is next stage?
Please tell us.

That's good news The processor and the screen are OK.
lets try and reload the operating system.   down load the latest version of the CubeX firmware. I think it 1.07
Reloading the operating system maybe enough.  The internal software may drop a bit from it memory it happens sometimes.
Go back into boot loader mode and re install the software.  lets hope that fixes it.

Hello,

I tried to update CubeX firmware same as the CubeX user guide but I haven’t solved the problem until now.
So I hope you to check following procedure that I did.
In addition I sent e-mail to you with some picture because I couldn't upload picture on this posting.

1. Enter the boot loader mode before connecting the USB stick to CubeX.

OK good work looks like you done the right thing, Do you want to try it again but with the files I will send you.
I think the firmware up date worked but the fault is still there. do you wan to try something else ?

Run this boot loader first.  this runs with out internet access. put your cube into boot loader mode and run the file.
and establish connection. then email me back.

I sent you an older boot loader.

At this point we know the system is basic OK.

Question. can you take a voltage reading. for me.? Locate R35 and R34 measure the voltage across R 34..   Place the negative multimeter probe on ground  and the other between
R34 and R 35.
if you cannot. don't worry about it.

Hello,

First, after disconnecting internet, I tried it but the LCD still didn't work.

I've measured the voltage between R35 and R34 and the value was almost 1.4V.

Positive prove - R34
R35 - Negative probe

And your mean is that you will send new firmware file to me and I try again.
Is it alright?
If so, when will you send new firmware that you said?

I would like you to try a different firmware file.  JUST to see if it lights the screen and displays the functions.
If it works and you get printer control. Do NOT Print With IT JUST CHECK THE SYSTEM BUT Do NOT PRINT.
You can move the bed around X , Y, Z will be OK do NOT heat the extruder.

Voltage at the resistor point is correct.     There is not much wrong with it something small has gone. I think its one of the diodes around the display IDC connector. I Could be the MCLR is not HI on pin 7.

Thank you for your consideration.

We tried it with new firmware, BFB_FBM.hex, but the LCD still doesn't work and the backlight only works.

The cause could be one of the diodes around the display IDC Connector?
If so, what do we do for it?
We have an oscilloscope and engineers who majored electronics.
So we think that we can check something that you want.

before you go any further. return the MB controller to its original state. Reinstall the 1.07 operating system using there advised software and procedure.
Get you guys to check the USB OTG and the control chip IC 1.   also pull the Cartridge bay cable.  There is a 3V3 diode on the cartridge bay board  there that often causes the supply voltage 15 volts to blow the PIC.  Its something very simple.

see the schematic

Hi,

After installing V1.07, we checked the parts, R1 and U1 on the cartridge bay board.
The R1 voltage is almost 15V and Con1 voltage is almost 3.2V.

Keep looking its not much. Check all the diodes.
Please let e know what it was when you find it.  As i have tried to help you.

If you cannot fix it.   send it in and I will do it.   But I don't think it will come to that.

We are continuously checking CubeX for fixing and seem to find out hint about it this morning.
When the head connector is disconnected, the LCD works same as attached a picture.
But when the head connector is connected, the LCD still doesn't work.
So We guess that the cause will be a problem related circuit around the head connector.
If you have experiences same as my case, please advise.

Thanks for the information.  I am very interested.  I will try and replicate the fault on one of my spare boards.   I will get back to you.  Did you check MCLR pin for logic HI.  processor Pin 7.

I am will work on it.

I think I found it.  Look at pin 5 on the Head connector.   It is common to the display RG6 of the processor pin 4.   just remove the crimp and wire pin 5 from the Head connector and plug it back in.. measures the voltage on pin 5. Check to see if it gone to ground?

We're sorry, we missed your message about measuring MCLR.
Anyway we checked that MCLR is almost 3.3V.

And then we removed the pin 5 from the head connector and connected to the main board.
At that time LCD is normally operated, and pin 5 voltage is approximately 3.25V.

We still have a problem same as last week.
What function is RG6 of the processor pin 4?
In addition have you a good news for it?

RG6 is a bidirectional data line.  Bit 6 of bus G.   what you need to do is trace the wire of RG6 to the other end and start the process of elimination.
I will have a look.

Hi,

We still have a problem regarding LCD.

We tried to print after removed the pin 5 from the connector on the PRINT JET BREAKOUT BOARD.
At that time, the printer normally operates but LED lights between the fans don't work and also the fans don't turn.

It goes without saying that the phenomenon is caused when the pin 5 is removed?
If not, an above situation is different reasons?

Check the MOSFETs that drive the fans? they are very strong but that's all that really goes on up there as far as the fans and light are concerned. something is shorting that pin.
There is that other pic processor up there. I have been trying to read it's code. it looks code protected.  must get back to that.

Hello, Rodney Wells.

We may buy the main board or the breakout board.
We sent a message to Cubify.com, and they also said, the cause seems to be either main board or the breakout board.
So we're just planning to purchase them.

Before buying it, we want to try to change the MOSFETs lastly.
Do you know the part's information like model name?

Anyway we think that you are so kind.
Thank you for your consideration.

Hello
Nice to meet you, My name is lee ho yeon.
I useing 3D printer.
3D printer's model name is CUBE-X.
I have a question abut CUBE-X.
The temperature riseing that push print button.
The temperature is Auto set to 272.
It vary well riseing.
And if printer Auto move that Temperature to 250.
However, LCD mark the code 14 when thrid line draw.
In another case, The nozzle change the temperature when one layer end of next layer stack.
If end layer's temperature stack to 250, And Next layer's Temperature stack to 270.
Then LCD mark the code 14.
I think the temperature rise slowly, printer's firmware is fast that Temperature cheak time.
So, printer have a grave bug.
And i am action, changed the nozzle and change drawing.
Have you ever had a situation?
As a result i think bug or break part.
What do you scheme?
I'll wait for your answer.
Thank you.

Hi Hoyeon,

What material are you printing with?
ABS prints in the range 210c to 250c.
Printing up to 270 or higher sounds very hot to me.
The Cubex hot ends will melt at temperatures close to 300c.
I think the problem is the hot end can't raise the temperatures high enough.

I had noticed similar problems when I was using original Cubex software.
The Cubex software set a very high temperature for ABS and the PID regulator looks like have some instability when he has to regulate a very high temperature, I remember I had sometimes the temperature go over 275°C and the regulator wasn't hable to make it decrease.
