This has happened twice to me. I took the connector apart and cleaned the pin and its good for a month or so. Is there a electrically conductive gel that could be applied to the pins that would prevent this?

I have never see this before. Can you do smoothing and post the resistance of the heating element. Measure it from the connector. Just a hunch but i think the elements resistance is way to low could be a fault in the element insulation. looks like it drawing way to much current
