Havana, August 9
(acn) The presidents of Brazil and Nicaragua, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva
and Daniel Ortega, respectively, urged the US government on Wednesday
to lift the commercial, financial and economic blockade imposed on the
Cuban people for almost five decades.
According to Prensa Latina news agency, the petition was included in a
joint communiqué released by both leaders at the end of an official
visit of the Brazilian president to Managua, the Nicaraguan capital.
According to the text, read by Ortega in a public rally held at the
Poli-technical University in Managua, both heads of state expressed
their concern for the continuous implementation of measures that aim at
stiffening and expanding the blockade against the island.
